A servitor of the planes appears and hands you a silver flask, then vanishes.

<100%hp 40%m 100%mv 610tnl (70.95%)> 3 PM civilized invYou are carrying:
a silver flask
( 2) a pair of soft leather gloves
( 4) a soft leather cloak
( 6) a loaf of bread
( 4) a practice shield
a plain ceramic jug
a highly polished buckler
a practice sword

The ear of the fleshy creature decomposes.

<100%hp 69%m 100%mv 610tnl (70.95%)> 8 PM civilized
The tiny fleshy creature has arrived.

As far as I know, this is perfectly legit in-game behavior, but perhaps in the interests of not having pwk potions (assuming I'm remembering correctly) sent to newbies, disable using 'sending' to targets within the newbie academy?

I realize that newbies and vets alike need to learn to not drink strange flasks, among other things, but this seemed to me like unneccessary griefing to a level 2 character.

I held off on responding to this, but now I can.

OH please! If you're a duergar, or drow, or anti-paladin, or orc, you can't whine when good people look to set you back. A couple of things:

1. You aren't a newbie, so why are you whining?
2. If you were a newbie, I can't think of a better way to be introduced to what it means to be evil. My first was a drow anti-paladin. I didn't get introduced to the game as evil until I had spent ~20 hours and was level 15.
3. 2 hours in and you're worried about dying?
4. If you were good alignment you'd probably get sent decent gear.
5. This is and was an attempt at character assassination.

>5. This is and was an attempt at character assassination.

How can a post that doesn't name anything about the character (except, implicitly, their class) be character assassination?

The only person mentioning those things is you. I didn't know who they were talking about, but I bet I can figure it out now. :P

way to out & assassinate yourself, dude. Ouch.
25795, roflchar assassination

1. I'm not whining, "friend". I made a short, concise post on Gameplay (which is far different from making assumptions and arguing wrongfully about conjurer mechanics repeatedly).

2. I'd say roleplaying with people and fighting lowbie goodies in your range is far better.

3. Is a character's con magically less valuable at a low level than a higher one?

4. That's great!

5. Are there any NAMES in that little log snippet? Yes, of course I could have included them, but some of us are classier than others. I'd also put forth that you cry character assassination because you'd be pretty ####ing embarrassed to be caught griefing a level 2 character. I hope every player would.
25796, Kizzy

You're whining because the point was moot four times over. You say it isn't roleplay? How many heroes do you see interacting with newbie on a regular basis. Whenever my "sending" timer was up I did a (who newbie) and sent something useful to someone. Most of the time I had to initiate a conversation to figure out if the person was good or not. Two times I happened to have PWK flasks, so I sent those. That's more meaningful roleplaying than you'll see from most other people. It's more than an emote, it's me using my class and role to promote an IC cause.

Your whining post was clearly character assassination. Truth speaks louder than your words, and the truth is that multiple posts underneath speak of 'vengeance' on the offending conjurer. It was Kizzy, being played by "Josiah". I'd do this again in a heart-beat, and I don't consider myself a griefer. All of you OOC-circle-jerk buddies and #dangeroomers can put it in your pipe and smoke it.

You need to be forum banned for your own good I think.

I win.

Your persecution complex is baffling AND hilarious.

Also, I will level with you and be perfectly honest: I really didn't and don't care all that much. I personally think it's a bit of an omission due to the segregated nature of the Academy, since players like you and Tremblay's player can (and obviously do) use it to mess with characters in the newbie academy. I think it makes sense to disallow sending harmful (and good, helpful) crap to characters WITHIN that particular area. Yes, it's niche.

The fact that it was you playing the character, and that you broke down and outed yourself and your character does make the whole trivial saga funny and sweet to me.

ALSO, regarding character assassination: I have no idea what your warped definition of character assassination could possibly be, but I'm sure it's very interesting. Of course it was "a conjurer": like I said above, I'm guessing anyone who had interacted with you would have known instantly it was you. In that light, you're sleeping in the bed you make, not being unfairly maligned by some spiteful lurker.

and, finally, ####ty name, broseph. I was tempted to roll up Chickengeorge or Kuntakinte to mess with you, but had something more pressing to do, like walk the dog or blow my nose or something. Also, on final review of this post, wasting time and these paragraphs on you makes me feel dumb :( Perhaps you win in the end.
25800, Isn't that always the way?

Bring your arguement down to the level of a moron and the moron will win everytime due to experience.
25801, It is griefing
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
BECAUSE ONLY A NEWBIE WILL EVER DIE TO IT.

Get the picture? You are killing newbies who are not in pk, let alone in your pk range. You do understand the concept of pk range?

You do understand the concept of a newbie, and being protected from others?
25803, You don't make me feel like you actually know 'evil'
Posted by Nian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Being an asshole is easy, any dimwit can do it. Being thorougly and truely evil ... this is not it.
25790, What if the newbie had a similar name to an enemy or friend?.... nt
Posted by Igsoeh on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just sayin.
25787, Had a few thoughts
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
1) Would the protection against plague, poison etc from eating bad things protect a lowbie from this? i.e. Would they get the warning message instead of death (which would be a valuable lesson if it cost them nothing to learn it).

2) Should said conjie have the spell taken away?

3) Is it worse than using suggest to do it to a newbie?

4) Are all conjies, especially evil ones, now being viewed as potential griefers? Are people going to make wrong guesses about which one it is and full-sac them for it?

25786, I think there's a failsafe against things like this, btw
Posted by Nian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Or at least I remember there once being one (a long time ago ...)

I have no idea if it's still active or not, let alone what it fires on.
25784, Related side-question
Posted by Nian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Suppose you would be able to kill a newbie level char (indirectly ofcourse), I would assume it doesn't count for your pk total?

It's just that I don't understand the use of even trying stuff like this. There's no glory, no rich loot, nothing.

What other reason would there be to do this, other than make yourself feel superior, by making people feel worse than you do? The conjie-player in question seriously needs a head-check, in my ever so humble opinion.
25779, The proper response
Posted by Scrimbul on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Excuse me mister conjurer, would you quaff this and show me what it does? I want to see it in action!

If he refuses to quaff it you have a bard write a note about him from your entirely innocent perspective.

Hilarity ensues as the conjurer ends up full sacced and ganked on the log board.
25780, It is griefing though
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Because only newbies are going to fall for it, and they won't know how to deal with it ic.

It is lame. But on the other hand, I'd rather die to that when I'm a level 2 newbie than when I'm a level 40 newbie with gear.

If you're a duergar & a newbie.. You need to learn an awful lot of things very quickly.
25802, That's your excuse?

You can teach people without being a #### to them. Well, most of us can. Apparently you are unable.
25783, Only people like you start out that paranoid
Posted by Nian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Seriously though, it's a serious kick in the nuts, and if that's the first encounter ever, it's not exactly a great welcome.

I wouldn't disable send though. It would just be common sense that it's not exactly a cool thing to do (more like a ####ed up thing ...).

What if we just made "sending" honor a character's "trust" settings.

Or possibly make it honor "nogive"? Though, very few people run around with "nogive" turned on, so that might not accomplish anything.
