25485, To the IMM's: Character titles, especially battle
Posted by Guilo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I know a lot of battle are quality characters that deserve what they have, and I think everyone deserves a title at some point or another, but do you Imm's feel that battle has an overly abundant amount of Immortal eyes watching? They seem to be the ONLY people that get titles recently besides a few Forties due to the activeness of Baerinika. Yean/Thror/Ysaeloerye ALWAYS seem to be around giving love to their cabal, but the others don't seem near as loving/active.
Getting your last name at least is always cool... but I don't think I've ever felt more snubbed by the IMM's as far as divine/RP and no love on the last name/title stuff.
In no way is this a whine or something, I just know it personally always makes me feel so good when I get divine or some RP from the Imm's and Outtie/Nexus just seem so at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to this. I play mostly for the interactions with characters, but I don't think anyone can deny how much they wish they could get more sight from the IMM's when they're doing good.

Really? I'm the opposite. Baer asked my thoughts while she was tinkering with Kasir's title. I was fine with helping, but it took a little of the "magic" out of it. That's not a criticism of her at all. It's like the difference between getting a cool gift given to you by someone else, out of the blue, and going out and buying something cool for yourself. You still have the same cool thing, but the former is more enjoyable.

25497, Admittedly, I have done this.

Because as I previously stated, I'm ####ing horrible at titles.
As it turns out, so are most of the charaters I've asked to help. :p

25503, I agree with Stunna. I miss Muuloc...

A pottery vendor (or whatever mob it was) asks you 'So what are you known as, if the world knew your story'...
Kruuank says 'Guess could call Motherless...'
Kruuank the Motherless Brute.
YAY!
I miss Muuloc.

25625, This is more or less what I'm say, yea.

Kastellyn and I did it with Dungards title... it was like "Brawler of ... " and then we bounced around different ideas until we came up with "Dungard BloodFist the Battered Brawler of the Brigade". I wish I would have caught him online to get his tat, which he said he would have given when he saw me next... then I could have been Dungard BloodFist, Legendary Brawler of the Brigade - that would have been tres sweet.
That said I also like titles that are simple - Like "Motherless Brute"
Slayer of the Wicked Stinking Behemoth
Where as I like longer and "weak" titles less. One of my least favorite titles was "Mithril Knight" b/c it was like wtf does that mean??? (sorry shokey)

I'm pretty ####tacular at titles, but I do make an effort to give them to tattooed followers. I'll throw the occasional title at other people I've interacted with, but I don't have a lot of time to snoop random others and know enough about them to figure out an appropriate perk for them.

25490, This begs another IMM question to me.
Posted by Guilo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just so everyone always knows, and that you know the point of this post wasn't.. YOU GUYS NEVER WATCH US WTF or anything like that cause that'd be ridiculous... but what is the percentage of your time up there mostly like?
Like 50% coding, 10% snooping, 20% reading emails, 20% talking to followers? I've always been curious what your schedules are like when you're on, and I know they differentiate from Imm to Imm, but it'd be cool knowing.

Depends on the imm. With Iunna I'd wager it's about 10% interacting with followers, then 90% tinkering with peoples' pfiles.

25496, Close!
Posted by Iunna on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'd go 90% interacting with people (not necessarily just followers) and 10% pfile haxx0ring.
Though in all honesty, if I'm online, I'm snooping someone. Usually more like five someones. If I'm vis, I'm talking to someone. Sometimes I'm even snooping the person I'm talking to at the shrine. I do a lot of interaction work via tells, pop-ins, blackjacks, etc. That's how I roll, and maybe it's not as in-depth as planning/running giant quests or having "what does it all mean?" conversations with people, but I think it still does something for those characters, and it's not as time consuming.
If it doesn't, someone should let me know so I can go back to 90% pfile editing. ;)

How in the heck do you snoop five people at once? Don't you see everything they see?

25499, Depends on the snoop.

Personally I think that's great, you get immediate interaction, which obviously means you're being actively watched. Unless you're pulled aside, it should mean you're doing something right.
And at least on the short term, it can be more rewarding than some obscure quest, of which you're not even sure you're doing it right.
And about IMM blackjacking, at one time I had just logged in, and got blackjacked, Zerrla just happened to be around and summoned me out.
I escaped though, and got a "Oops, that wasn't supposed to happen" (or a more RP appropriate version :)) That was hilarious.
It's little things like that, that make IMMteraction fun.

I usually try to blackjack in "safe" situations. You can blame Nelly's copycat behavior for that one. :p

just a few months ago every Outlander had a unique title. It comes and goes for each cabal (excluding Tribunal).

25487, I mostly agree with this:
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Some imms are better about creating unique titles than others. I'm personally ####ty about it, but you're more likely to get some kind of game mechanical perk from me than some other imms. Overall I think it balances out.
Another factor that you may not be considering... some characters write roles that gear better towards cool titles than others. I really liked Kassibaz and wearing my Nexus imm hat I struggled to come up with something appropriate, though I finally settled on something. Conversely, I gave a unique title to Malakhi (blame me if you hate it, M) because I thought he was also a cool character and had a really good idea of a direction to go from his role.
|
25488, Right on Sir.. I just wished I saw you vis more!
Posted by Guilo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Malakhi's title is probably one of the toughest titles around recently, so good work.
I guess I'll just keep toughing it out and enjoy the ride.
|
25491, I think both are badass, though I gotta say...
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
...that it's unbelievably clunky...
Malakhi Malakhar the Pitiless Reaper AND Warped Phoenix? WTF.
Here's a solution (you can thank me later Malakhi):
Malakhi Malakhar the Pitiless Warped Phoenix, Reaper of the Arcane (do away with Mageslayer! so stock and blah), Veteran of Battle.
I should get paid for this ;)
Just hook my lowbie up with executioner's grace, son!

25502, Title Tip:
Posted by vargal on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Actually, this is kind of a writing tip in general:
Say it out loud a few times. Odds are, it'll feel clunky when you say it if its a bad title. Words should flow like water, from highest to lowest point.
