24360, What wins in straight melee
Posted by Stunna on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Felar spear/staff.
Arial sword.
Giant sword.
Giant pole.

(heh... i said "giant pole"... heh... I'll be 12 soon.)

Depends a bit on the weapons and whether vulns/resistances apply.

If we assuming something 'neutral' in that no one has either, such as acid weapons, I'm thinking probably the arial sword. Riposte is a decent chunk of why.

Man, I look at those four options, and I think to myself that the felar spear/staff would win in straight melee. Good defense plus dual wield. But then I have a soft spot for cats.
24364, Was my guess too, plus good hp. nt

I think felar spear is pretty great, but I think in straight up melee it's going to suffer vs. the arial sword because of riposte (despite being a great tank and having more hp). Vs. the giants, it has the issue that its dual wield attacks can't beat weapon resist, though I don't know that it'll definitely lose.

The pure melee stipulation does skew things. If the felar spear can drop the arial's stats at all or get one sword out of his hands, the fight swings dramatically.
24378, flourentine vs. spin
Posted by Stunna on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Is flourentine better than defensive spin for the arial and felar respectively?
24379, RE: flourentine vs. spin
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Probably they're comparable. Depending on the situation, I might call spin better.

You can't tank riposte, though, and if we're assuming pure melee, I'm assuming the arial gets to keep his 25 dex throughout. At times I think dagger's (and thus concealed) been in vogue long enough that people have forgotten what a factor riposte can be in a fight that plays to it. I think this one would.
24363, Has there been a good, recent arial/sword? nt

I'm not asking to hear anything that wouldn't be very common knowledge.
24372, The arial in question:
Posted by Amberion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Is a village berserker, crashing is one of the legacys. REAL nasty. Really really nasty even. :D There are a few logs of him/her on QHCF.

Fought them at the rites as Iegob (fire giant, berserker, mace/h2h, cry of thunder + chilling embrace.) Or was it in the circle? Well, I had 0 chance and when I used cursed weapons my odds weren't much better. And Iegob wasn't a fool, that's for sure. (I still drool over the title I was given... heh)
24373, Huh
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That's not the arial sword I was thinking of. Don't know about Twist.
24374, Oooh... Well, didn't really know there was another atm...
Posted by Amberion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Though I've been inactive for almost 2 weeks now, alot of things happens on CF in that time. :D
24376, I assume they are talking about Kassibaz
Posted by Tac on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Or whatever his name is. Leader of Nexus. Arial sword spec I believe.
24377, There are a couple of them..
Posted by Adhelard on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think warrior edges (e.g., speed flurry, llorenthos) opened up enough variety to make them fun and dangerous. (Imagine people plotting ways to disarm/flurry... ok so they don't all have to be the creative sort of variety.)
24380, That's the one that came to my mind. (n/t)
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
.
24385, Yeah I meant Kassibaz. I'm a fan.
Posted by Twist on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Selene is pretty suave too. But Kassibaz is the one that came to mind.
24387, How is he making it work? 2nd spec? nt

He is indeed pretty beastly. And has an impaired sense of self-preservation.
24371, Yeah, and I tried one once. Only got to lvl 28...
Posted by Amberion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
But man! It rocked! I was a sheated blade under Kostyan. The build was really nasty already at that lvl. With all the nice swords at low lvl made it easy as well. (Later Kostyan throw me a ####load of über gear, even some stuff from the Silent Tower, and it became even more nasty.)

At one point I had 65ish damroll and (I'm guessing) around 600hps. Which is insanly good for an arial at lvl 28. (Or was it 29? I had riposte at least.)

I agree. Maybe giant if the arial's using physical weapons.
