23685, Age and stats
Posted by Valkenar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Is it possible to waste practices by maxing stats that get raised via age? For example, if you start with 18 chr, your racial max is 20 and it goes up by 2 when you hit mature, are those two points lost? Does this happen, or is your train preserved in some way (perhaps by acting as a buffer for stat loss due to age)?
If it is possible to waste trains in this fashion, what are the stat changes at each tier? Is this something it's okay for people to post, even if the staff doesn't feel like digging up or presenting the info themselves?

Has anyone ever died because of the jump between middle-age and Old age from the loss of CON?

23722, Does anyone ever use the + stats after mature? txt
Posted by Artificial on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I know I always keep my str and wis 1 under max because mature doesnt take long to reach, but I can't imagine doing that till middle aged, which makes the +stats seem unnecessary, and its basically just - stats after mature.
Maybe something could be done class based regarding this? Maybe magi get +1 to their max racial int/wis, and melee types either dont lose or gain 1 max str at middle aged?
Less intuitive for melee types, but I think I should be more afraid of an ancient invoker than mature invoker who has the same spells learned.
thoughts?

I trained my str/dex back up to max, or as close as I could, with my last character. Maybe dumb in that I should have spent those trains on hp or something...but...eh.

23724, Didn't mean it in that sense.

What I meant was does anyone say at char creation I am not going to max my int and wisdom so that I get +1 in both at middle aged?
I am trying to say that the +int and wisd from old age seems useless.

I might do it with wisdom. *Maybe* with intelligence, if I wasn't playing a class that needed high mana.
For races that can't get more than 3 pracs, on a non-mana-intensive class, I usually train wisdom to 18 at character creation, then don't train it again until I've maxed strength and dexterity. Or, at least, until I've gotten strength to "one less than max".
If I have like 75 hours on a character and wisdom is "one less than max", maybe I just wait it out until middle age hits.

Yes.
Actual stat modifiers: you get +1 wis and +1 con at mature.
That's all I'd really worry about. Your mental stats go up and physical stats go down at middle age and old, but I personally never plan for this.

Can you go ahead and post the mods that happen at other age levels? Every time I've asked on dio's I've gotten conflicting answers.

Better yet, put this info in the "aging" help file.

Actually you get +1 wis and +1 str at mature, not +1 con.
Well...maybe you get +1 con also, but I've never noticed since I max con first.
I know you get +1 wis and +1 str, at least. +1 con also would be even nicer.

I was actually hoping it was all 3. That would be cool, right? :)

23698, Don't you get +1 str at mature too? nt

Well, the degree of "waste" is debatable since you get the benefit of the higher stat level during the period before it gets automatically bumped up.
I usually train my strength to one-less-than-max while I'm young then wait for my character to hit "mature" for it to get bumped to max.
Same for wisdom when I'm playing a character that isn't dependent on mana.
But if I did train strength all the way to max then I'd get the benefit of it being maxed during the ~30 hours it takes to hit "mature". It's up to you to decide whether that qualifies as a "waste" of that train. (I think it is.)
