Any reason why you cannot use a shield and a wand at the same time?

Just curious.

As it is, you're forced to have at least one "weapon hand" at all times. This means you are always shelling out damage and don't have the easy "tank for group of lowbies because I'll never do damage".

Since you always have a weapon hand, the other hand is used for all the rest (shield, held, light, etc)

Wand in main hand Shield in offhand: It's assumed in the world of CF combat that you're constantly attacking and fending off blows with at least one hand. Putting a wand in that hand and a shield in the other goes against this assumption, because while you can still fend off blows, you are unable to also perform a melee attack without risking breaking your precious magical wand. Forcing you to use your offhand for both shields and wands streamlines this logic.

Wand and Shield in same hand: Even if you devised a grip on a shield that attached primarily to your forearm and not require the use of all of your digits, this would be a very hard shield to deflect heavy blows with, because you wouldn't be able to use your wrist and grip to twist and maneuver the shield. It would also be unlikely that all CF shields would have this same grip, and even more unlikely that you would be able to perform the exacting and learned movements that wands in CF must require to use while at the same time attempting to deflect blows. (If wands were easy to use, there wouldn't be a separate skill for them.)
