22969, Disconnections and lag outs
Posted by Blobqirt on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I know there are a few people who are having the same problem as myself, but I was wondering if anyone had managed to fix it.

I am having constant disconnections and lag outs while I play. It will be fine and then all of a sudden no commands go through, and everything stops, then I get disconnected. Multiple times as well. Most times when it does reconnect I get the skull, get my chars name in, and then it lags out before I can put the password in. I've tried doing a system restore until well before it started occuring, I've tried disabling the vista autotuning. Done everything I can think of, even fiddled with the router in case that is the issue but with no result. It's only start happening within the last 2 to 3 weeks for me, maybe less but it has made it unbearable for me to play. It sours both rp and makes it, literally, impossible to try to PK because I turn into a sitting duck for 5 to 10 minutes every random while.

Is anyone having a similar issue? Does anyone know how to fix it? Was something changed at the server side recently that might be the reason? I'm really clutching at straws here! I've only just recently come back to my addiction after quite a break and now to be denied my crack is worse then anything!

Cheers in advance for any help.

Oh and I should add that I've spammed tracerts and pings before, during and after these disconnections and there is no difference in any of them. The pings all stay the same, a steady 90 odd ms ping.

I am not having a disconnect issue or serious lag.
Running Vista with autoupdate on.
Using Pueblo as a client
comcast.net isp

Try a different client. I wonder if all of the individuals who are failing have the same client and a tcp setting has changed in windoze. Or check the client tcp settings if it is available in the client.

All on the same isp?

Got to start ruling things out somewhere.

I had a problem at one point where my router would disconnect TCP sessions after a (too short) period of inactivity, but that doesn't sound like what you're seeing.

It's weird that you're getting disconnected while ping and traceroute both indicate a good path. On Windows, both ping and tracert use ICMP packets. It's possible that if your ISP is mucking with TCP traffic it might not show up in ping or tracert.

Maybe try getting this:

http://tracetcp.sourceforge.net/

It's a traceroute that uses TCP SYN packets, and lets you specify the destination port. When you see the problem happening, fire that thing up and point it at carrionfields.com 9999. Maybe it'll exhibit the same connection problem you're seeing in your mud client.

So far today its been steady, which is a very very pleasant change. But I'll give that little gizmo a shot and see if it picks anything up.

Cheers man.

I am having a similar issue, but haven't seen a fix yet. So, I'm feeling your pain and looking forward to anyone who has fixed it!

And I know now that it appears to be cf related, in that I can do other stuff as if my connection was fine.

It's damn annoying given how many times I've died in pk to this now. The other person never notices, apparently. Generally I believe them because they have proven that they are not a-holes in other ways.

Nah, its worse when your trying to level with a group, interact with others or even have interviews in regards to cabals.

Mightily frustrating. Everything else I do on the net is fine, and the tracerts are fine, its just mudding and seems to just be CF in general.
