I've been trying on and off for several hours now, at first I thought my internet connection crapped out but I guess that wasn't it.
Poop.

22947, On the bright side...

...at least the server building didn't explode again.

22948, Well, what did happen?
Posted by Theerkla on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
And on a separate note, why is sharing this information with the playerbase so often overlooked &/or disregarded.
- Is there anybody on staff aware of the issue ?(obviously with this post, the answer is yes)
- Is there anybody on staff capable of addressing the issue aware of it, or are we waiting on a high enough level imm to look into it?
- Is it something bigger than that, i.e. high level imms have tried to fix an issue but have yet to determine a solution?
- Is it an issue that requires someone at the ISP to fix and we are waiting on a technician?
- Is there an estimated time to restore the mud?
This situation reminds me greatly of the transit service near me. It's great service, one of the cheapest in the country, some ridiculous number of >90% on time arrivals, etc. You would think it to be appreciated and enjoyed, yet a lot of people hate it. The reason being that when there is an issue, the riding public is left completely in the dark.
It seems like somebody in the know, could have posted a note by now. If doing that took 30 minutes away from fixing the mud, that's thirty minutes well-invested.

22949, Maybe....

The amount of people who actually have access online to the machine is very small. Those people are on a holiday weekend as well and might not even know it is down.
The actual person who has physical access to the machine may not know either.
I am sure when one of those people know something, then they will post something.
|
22950, Than why not come out and say that?
Posted by Theerkla on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
"We are aware of the issue, we are waiting on a high enough level imm to see what's going on?"

It's a free mud and a holiday weekend. Cut some slack.

22952, Shouldn't that be assumed by default? n/t

22953, You obviously knew that it's down
Posted by JMCC on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
They aren't running a customer service firm you know. Would it really reassure you that much if they came out and said it?
Chill out dude.
|
22957, Yep..
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Because if we're just waiting for a high lvl Imm to realize it's down, that's one thing.
If the server explodes in a massive fireball, that's something else.
It's comforting to know which is the problem.
You say they're not running a customer service firm, but as administrators of the game, it would fall on them to keep the playerbase updated. A quick one line comment wouldn't be too difficult, and it'd do alot to make us feel better.

22958, Because.

I am not one of the aforementioned people and can't speak for them. And your answer is pretty much the answer that I am assuming as well.

22960, Why is it necessary?
Posted by Nivek1 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If the game is down, it's down. Being impatient isn't going to do anything but create tension. Go find something else to do, and maybe when you come back, it will be up. Then you can play.
|
22968, Yep.

95% of the time when something like this goes wrong, I can fix it if I'm around. Unfortunately, I was computerless for a couple days like probably a lot of people over Thanksgiving.

22954, What I've done so far
Posted by Fjarn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've done everything in my power to bring the mud back up this morning.
This includes:
-Instituting much swearing and gnashing of teeth -Yelling at my laptop -Kicking the laptop table -Swearing again, now my toe hurts -Picking the laptop up off the ground -Making the dogs stay outside, even though there's a scary MetLife blimp floating around out there (not really relevant, but immensely amusing) -Calling 1-800-ZULGLUV. (German phone sex.. weird) -Posting to the forums, because I can't play on my all-mud Saturday, and there's nothing I can do about it -Swearing some more, trying to work in a new mammal with each phrase
I've pretty much expended my abilities, and I'm ready to place blame squarely on the shoulders of those responsible - the mages. Think about it. They burn villages and leave orphans in their wake, and they experiment with innocent families to turn them inside out and stuff. What's to keep them from bringing the mud down, or (gulp) burning the internets down entirely?
Save the mud, kill a mage.
(In all seriousness, what Lyr said. Like you, I'm just here for my own entertainment while we wait for the skull)

I am so mad right now! This is my all day Saturday and Sunday weekend for CF! I feel like a crack fiend that just wants his last hit for the millionth of time. Please.. Please.. give me CF SKull!

22959, It's transmuters this time.
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The server fireball was invoker doing. This time it's neurological disruption cast via internet. So, no skull (CF has thus temporarily departed from clade Craniata) and the downtime depending on whether or not it was a violent neuro.

I can't procrastinate my area revampage by reading roles and other miscellaneous things. So, the sooner you'll see another revamped area in.

22964, Ohh... Perhaps the new Galadon...?
Posted by Dragomir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Because that would be cool.

I cant seem to log on either. If whatever Imm handles this could fix me up I would be grateful.

Anyone able to get on? If not, let me know I am not the only one? lol
|
22943, No.
Posted by Theerkla on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Whenever you are able to make a socket connection, but aren't able to get the skull as it is at the moment, it means the game didn't start up correctly. It will require an imm with console access to the server to get in and fix things.

Thank you so much, I have not experienced this here yet my first time. I really appreciate your reply.
