22539, Can it also be double improvements for practicing?
Posted by Torak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Then you might actually see an invoker this weekend :)

22538, I really, really like this idea.

I recently re-subscribed to WoW after spending a little over a month playing throw-away characters and getting nowhere. Eventually I just got tired of levelling.
But this change has definitely thrown a wrench in the proverbial WoW machine. I'll definitely be rolling something up for this weekend.
Great idea! And overdue, in my opinion.

22533, Double xp weekend sure is a surprise
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think it went along like this:
Immortal1: Bad news: I think Valg ate something bad. He'll be in deep coma until next monday.
Immortal2: Good news: We'll have double XP weekend next weekend!
Anyway, it'll serve as a nice test on effects of raising xp all across the board in CF.

Not really, but there was a lot of spirited discussion about the topic. In the end, we pulled the trigger.

I don't look at this as a test for what could possibly be. This is a marketing effort to get people back to the game they once played by offering an incentive.
I do think there are things we can do to adjust the existing experience system. However if we are going to make changes, it will not be something as simple as just boosting all the experience gained by two.

Well as someone who hasmade a couple of comeback characters. What keeps me away is the boredom at the hero range. I'd love to see more quests, perks, or just plain interaction in general. That is where the game is really hurting right now. I loved the last two shapeshifter I played. At least until I got my final forms. Once I got them and played around a small bit the excitement was over.
On a sidenote I still think the double exp idea is great.

22552, You could...

take advantage of the weekend to rank something that is either a class you do not generally play, especially if that class has changed recently.
Or rank something that is interesting to play in PK but is usually an utter migraine waiting to happen at ranking, especially in the 30+ to hero range. Most thieves and some orc specs come to mind.
Though I imagine we'll be seeing more than a few mostly-optimal groups, double XP means you should be able to grab most anything and still make the bank in terms of ranking an otherwise dull combo quickly to the interesting levels.

HELP WHY
This is a conspiracy against me in particular, isn't it!?
Here I'm debating about a character, but am going to be gone the 1st-6th for my sister's wedding, and now you give double exp to all my enemies??
It's cheating I tell you, cheating!

22531, Seconded re the newsletter

XP weekend... not too bothered about personally, although it will be good if it boosts numbers. I know a lot of others will like it.
The newsletter was excellent though, in every respect, I thought.
