22174, Dodge legacy
Posted by Stunna on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I can't remember the name of the dodge legacy, and I'm too lazy to look it up. My question is, I know the dodge legacy helps out characters that ordinarily wouldn't dodge well. So like, it would be cool on a dwarf or a giant.
My question is this... does weight still matter a great deal? If I took the dodge legacy, would I then want to keep my weight at 50% to make effective use of it?
Thanks again!

22213, my understanding of the parry and dodge legacies
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My understanding is that these legacies give an extra chance to suceed if the initial check failed. Ie anytime you miss a dodge with the legacy you get a flat 5% chance of dodging anyway.
The saying that this will help chars who don't dodge well in the first place is based on the logic that if you miss a lot of dodges you will check the legacy more often and end up with it kicking in a higher number of times.
That being said because of differences in hp that one extra dodge might be more meaningful for a dexy race then those 2 extra you get as a giant.

This isn't too far off.
So for example a dexy character succeeds at the extra check for Dance more often, but the undexy character probably gets a lot more checks because they're already not dodging as much.

22185, I have played a fire giant with the dodge legacy.
Posted by RobDarken on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Named Garzon.
And I can tell you now it was a waste. It seemed to help just a little bit when fighting anyone with 18 dex and under. But beyond that it wasn't any good.
I definitely would not pick it again unless I had high dex.

I think they said that it would still help, but your giant will still be a sucky dodger.

22178, Huh, see I heard the exact opposite.

During the very brief time I was an immortal it SEEMS LIKE I was talking to Sebeok in the gathering room and he said that the parry and dodge legacies did more for characters that wouldn't ordinarily do well in those areas.
I dunno, it could be one of the many hundreds of pieces of mis info born in my brain and disguised as memory.

Dances will help out a high dex race more then a low dex race in absolute terms.

22181, Thanks. I read this as

Good for both, actually.
Arial will always out dodge dwarf. Period.
But, dwarf will see a more improvement than will arial as a result of dance. Even if dancing dwarf never out dodges arial w/o dance.
Word.
I want to play a svirf sword spec with fires of adversity and autumn harvest one day. Yowza!

No, the arial will get more benefit out of dance.
I might be wrong but what I think Dev is saying is that the poor dodger will have the chance to have dances "fire" more often resulting in dodges because they have a worse dodge to begin with. But, since the increase that dances provides works off a characters original chance to dodge the absolute benefit gain goes to those with a higher base chance to dodge.
It might not be this simple, but here is an example of what I mean.
Assume:
Arial base chance to dodge = 80% Dwarf base chance to dodge = 50%
Dance increases dodge by 1.10x
So you get:
Arial with dances chance to dodge = base X dances bonus = 80%*1.1=88%
Dwarf with dances chance to dodge = 50%*1.1 = 55%
Arial gains +8% Dwarf gains +5%

22184, Math sucks.

I THINK we're saying the same thing.
I'm saying, arial will actually dodge MORE often than will dwarf. Dance will work MORE for arial than for dwarf.
But, because dwarf has MORE chance for it to fire, and so dwarf gets more mileage out of the legacy.
But, uh, yea, I guess I'm not disagreeing with you, so I don't know what the point of this post is anymore.

22175, I personally can't look at the code
Posted by Drag0nSt0rm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
But I was always under the impression dance on the southern wind code looked something like this
if has dance take base dodge % chance, and multiply it by 1.1
Thats dance on the southern wind, to my understanding.
So you are wrong somewhat in your assumption that dance helps slow chars. It helps higher dex characters more because of the higher starting % in the equation.
Hope that helps
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not!
