21971, Necro's at Hero Range, they can be deadly if.....

They do, or have what? Wands, a full army, ect...

I have only seen one Necromancer at hero range, Shenkov, and he was successful. But, what if you dont know anything about becoming a Lich/Mummy, and just want to be a necromancer at hero range. What are the things you must have to be successful?

Also, why do necromancers stop at the rank of 47? Is this when they are first able to possibly become undead?

Thanks

Necros stop getting xp at 47, unless they become some sort of undead.

at 47, you have all heros in pk, even those who you normally wouldn't due to xp pen (used to be, 47 human necros could not fight 51 storm pallies, now they can)

A naked necro, at any rank, can kill any non-undead pc in their pk, with a little luck.

c sleep. Spell up. Pwk or vamp or energy drain.

The problem is, at 47, landing that sleep isn't going to be a given. Especially against hero maran with eyes of flame...and scion invokers/shifters with counterspell. and hero pallies with insane virtues. and hero warriors with legacies to counter it, and ragers with spellbane and deathblow.

So, the way a necro competes at hero range, without doing the "flee/word if I fail sleep, every time" thing (which in hero range is stupid, because if that's what you are relying on, you will die often), is to and I hate to sound simplistic......get them to 0 hp before you hit 0 hp.

A full army will help TREMENDOUSLY, not least for the "o all rescue" factor. Count on 2 to 3.5 hours to get a full army at 47, however....and that is doing nothing else but getting the army.

Also, maladicting lowers their ability to lower your hp, and increases your ability to lower theirs. thus you want to maladict them. And no other char in cf can do so as fully as you (though a number can do so faster).

So it comes down to, do you have enough hp to maladict them to the point where you will win the hp race?

At hero. if you don't land sleep. The answer to the above question is "No. You do not. Unless you use damage redux"

My necros could be somewhat competitive with aura/shield (which I had both rarely) with the addition of protection good and stoneskin.

But then again, both my necros also had manacles and guardcall as well.

Basically, the rule of wrist for any mage, if they want to compete at hero is ....... "Know how to get barrier, consistently"*

This is less urgent for conjurers and 6/7 path invokers, but still applies.

*I know two places to get barrier. But they are in places that almost noone can get solo, and none of my hero-range magi have had all that many allies willing to get them. I knew a third, but TLB1 or TLB2 took care of it, and it was a lvl 51 wand anyway, so you can't use it as a 47 necro even if it stayed. I know zero sleek locations. this is why I've not played a mage in years. (Not to mention, if I can't get a lich quest in 200+ hours as a provost, role contest winner, and first to have an imm's tattooo....kinda takes the wind outa my sails at trying to try again, nomatter how cool the role Ideas I have are)

Necros can't rank past 47 unless they lich or mummy. Wands are going to help any mage be successful.
