21891, DRUIDS!
Posted by Stunna on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My last druid was my scarab druid like, at least three years ago. I was evil, so I lost a few communes but basically I was kicking muy butt.
Since then druids have had a tone down to sunray, which was like, the mainstay of damage. Seems like something else took a hit too, but I'm not recalling what that was. I have not seen an uber killing druid (even to the likes of my last one) in a good long while.
Have they turned into more of a priesty, naturey healer and lost some of the offense? Are they still a choice for racking up monster PK's?

21917, Baltherias the Dark Druid of the Muse

If it wasn't you, then take a search and see what happens when a druid is too evil.
I don't buy that a druid (or similar alignment-based classes) can stay on one side or the other of neutral without paying a price.
If you are going to wander in your alignments outside of the basic tenets of the class, that is cool. There is a price...or there should be. Mileage varies.

Wow, I found this note to the Fortress in an old word file after this name popped up and I remembered seeing it earlier today thinking..hey I saw that. I don't even remember who this character was, I do remember that Aarn(?) kicked me in the nuts for interviewing eevil people and I removed the note though and didn't attempt to 'get to know' anymore evil religions with the character. But damn I thought Baltherias was awesome after interviewing him. Good job to whoever played him. This is Eshval's old religion by the way, different than what she's going for now I think.
Note to:Fortress
*DISCLAIMER: I do not condone the Lady Eshval’s religion, I do not approve of her dark followers. I seek to understand the followers of the Muse that we might better learn how to deal with them when their darker side pours forth and affects the Light in harsh ways.
This is a documentation of a series of interviews that could be forthcoming if it is met with approval. I am a scribe, I enjoy scribing, please give me feedback. Lady Eshval, Baltherias, please let me know if any of this information is false that I might correct it as soon as possible.
Recently it was asked, within my earshot, 'What is known of Baltherias?' Right offhand I noticed that he was an evil wood-elf druid..
When no one could respond, I really got curious. Here we are, set in our path to vanquish the darkness, when we don't know anything about that which we're trying to fight other then that a sword kills its physical form. My question was then, could there be something else to change this person's vile ways, without actually needing to cut him down where he stands? May we even fight it better if we know *why* it is evil? Baltherias was perfectly willing to speak to me about his beliefs, so I had a long conversation with him, (Thank you again Baltherius) in which I found many things out about him.
For those of you who do not know, he worships the lady Muse, Eshval. The followers of the Muse are all unique, yet they seem to have a common purpose; to create for their own pleasure. The creations are unique in and of themselves as well, though they usually have a common theme; Terror. The creation process greatly pleases Lady Eshval, or so I am told, and is considered Art by followers of this religion.
Baltherias, as a druid, has many interesting views of Nature, and cares deeply about it. As the voice of Nature, it is his duty to create and maintain a flourishing environment for the natural processes to happen. He kills much less then you would expect, though he does focus on the darker aspects of Nature. He chose freely to be turned to the dark, because that is what he wanted to represent, the evil side of Nature, the side feared by Man; the deserts, the swamps, the dark, uncomfortable places normal men don’t tread. He claims that too many druids focus on guarding forests, and plains to create harmony. He feels that those that over represent the nice, happy places are not balancing out Nature in the long run. He says that strife and conflict allow growth, harmony only leads to stagnation.
His actions represent the feared and the unknown, the Muse loves terror, so he represents her religion well. I asked what would happen to his soul, he responded that if he succeeds in his mortal life he will become Immortal in her gallery for her amusement, to do with as she pleases. If he displeases the Muse, he is fed to the furnace, and his soul is destined for bleak nothingness, and nonexistence.

Respectfully, I'm not sure I am catch the meaning of your post? I was not this character, as mentioned it was a Scarab druid...
Is this meant to be a reply to a different post??

That was me, by the way. One of my absolute favorite characters ever, in some ways due to his uniqueness.
Others might argue, but I think Baltherias stands out among even other evil druids because to me, it seemed a lot of evil druids ended up sinking into "murder druid" themes. I always felt Baltherias was more about what he represented, than he was about killing. If you happen to have anything involving him, feel free to post it.
***Note: Baltherias also evolved a lot as I played him, and his role really never detailed as much as I could have.

Grecken, 90-52 in 635 hours. Careashiin, 54-41 in 199 hours. Linaeren, 106-110 in 718 hours. Halistanis, 97-14 in 493 hours. Iia, 125-41 in 185 hours. Aeria, 261-102 in 608 hours.
Scarab druid means you were...Len? All of the above were played subsequent to Len. Obviously being Harbinger sort of helps.

I just looked all these up, you bastidge. None of them look really impressive, and they are intertwined with a lot of junk in between. Of these I would say that Aeria is the only one of note.
Yes, I played Len. How the heck did you remember the character??? I didn't think anyone noticed him.

Dio's graveyard search. There are only 4 evil druids on there and only two scarabs. One was Amora, the other was Len.
Dunno about you, but Iia and Halistanis's records seem pretty solid.

21900, Cool!

Wow... my first druid stacked up pretty good. Sunray is the mainstay of your damage... so are wilderness critters, at hero anyways. Pre sunray you can kill people with thornheart and a poison weapon. Grecken COULD have had a much larger PK rate, but role play out weighs killing stuff. I spent a LOT of time exploring, not PKing. I must've spent 100+ hours in the silent tower alone. I'm surprised Ambra didn't rank up there on that list, maybe she wasn't all she was cracked up to be after all.
Careashiin had insects and Careashiin was one of those characters I thought of as a nuissance, not a threat. They barely had a positive PK ratio so I wouldn't go so far as to think that insects is the make/break of druids. If *I* had insects... I don't know if that would have helped. I'm sure I would have sealed a few extra kills, but in the time to get insects to land a lot of people might've killed me or they would've just fled. Druids are powerful in the right hands. There's a lot of paying attention going on. Timing is everything. I got a LARGE number of my kills when I supposedly was at my weakest (new moon). It has everything to do with being prepared for what you are going against. 5 sets of offensive herbs may not always be what keeps you alive. It will definately make duergar shiver in their boots, however.
Note: Nearly all of my PK experience that's worth anything comes from the hero range.
