21785, idea: passive resistance mode
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
When in passive mode, the character doesn't try to hit anyone in melee. They still get hit and take damage, they just don't fight back.

Would need to add code such that anyone in passive mode or anyone aiming at someone in passive mode is prevented from improving at any skills/spells.

Might also make it so you can't use the "murder" command while in passive mode, to prevent people using it just to wake allies who are magically slept.

How would this be useful? Well, mainly for RP purposes. Maybe your character needs to walk through an area with aggro mobs, and he doesn't want to harm. This most obvious application is someone who's wanted, but who doesn't want to kill mobs that are aggro to criminals.

This not only sounds like a outright nightmare to code, but it screams ABUSE ME.

Just go around voralion when wanted. problem solved.
21833, still abusable, unfortunately

I like the idea, but here's one way of abusing it:

Passive resisting dude attacks mob.

Someone else spam practices on mob.

Can potentially go indefinitely, as passive resisting dude can pretty much leave the keyboard.
21834, I'd abuse it to gain charges as an ap

Have a passive-mode defensive warrior rescue the AP once combat is started.

I think this would be an awful lot of coding for a barely used, part-time rp tool. I can't see anybody playing out their characters career forever in passive mode and knowing the playerbase any pacifist-based roleplay around passive mode would go right out the window when it came time to kill a mob for choice gear items. If you really don't want to hurt anything, spend your life using the academy practice weapons and gear for -hitroll and +hp.

If this were added to the game, I' prefer it to be a flaw where you can't simply turn it on or off when it suits you.

I wasn't suggesting it be a permanent thing. It was more like, "I'm a good-aligned criminal and I need to run through Voralian City, but I don't want to accidentally kill a guard before I can flee."

Okay, so, make it so the following can't learn skills:

1. anyone in passive mode,
2. anyone targeting at someone in passive mode,
3. anyone being targeted by someone in passive mode,
4. anyone targeting someone who is currently being targeted by someone in passive mode.

I *think* that covers all the bases.
