21655, Removing opium pipes from the game.

In most situations (not always of course, but close to always) these pipes just encourage more ganking and cheap kills.
Discuss.

How about we merely remove the whiners from the game instead?
Discussed.

How about taking your own medicine, after your immense pu$$y-ass whinefest about empowerment. You nugget.

21705, I thought the same exact thing...

Pot says "Hello Kettle."
Kettle says "Hello Pot."
Pot says "You are black!"
btw, calling him a nugget, classic.

21671, Update

Zulg and I reviewed the mechanics for this and agreed on some changes, which should be live next crash/reboot or so. We'll keep an eye on how the new version plays out and make further adjustments if we see the need.

21665, Maybe it's just too easy to get?
Posted by asylumius on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It seems like it's just a handful of players who take the time to go get them and use them, usually resulting in lameness.

21664, Just give the 'user' of the pipe a 'forget' for similar duration to the sleep.
Posted by Abernyte on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Or have varied effects like one that doesn't allow you to attack because 'You can't be arsed!' or old school entropic 'confuse' and you end up attacking wrong person.
Should have some drawbacks.

21666, I don't see that helping much:
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Granted, I personally haven't seen a whole lot of opium pipe usage lately, and the item's been in the game and people have known about it forever so I'm not sure there's really a problem here, but:
The scenario in which the OP looks too good looks something like this: I charge a group of my enemies and use it, knocking us all out. My allies then come in and gang the sleeping people one by one. They probably wake me up, but it's sort of immaterial.
I'll try and have another look at it this week and see what I think.

21667, You'd think
Posted by CrftedDeception on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
After you got hit with the opium pipe.. you'd take it into account. I've died once to Opium Pipe use. I try to keep a close eye on who has one and plan accordingly. Dont keep running your group all together. Tactics go a long way. Its not bad to split your group in half. One ahead and the other close behind to avoid the mass sleep.

21668, Does it stop combat?
Posted by Eskelian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If it stops combat then there needs to be a saving throw. Otherwise, I could hang back, run in, sleep everyone who is fighting in a group vs group fight, wake up my side and gank the others.
If it doesn't stop people who are already fighting then I don't really see it as anything different than a long duration snare.

21669, Another possible scenario.
Posted by Shapa on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Your group comes to raid someone and use it at the inners. Inners wake your group during the battle. You raid and then gank defenders one by one. Even if your group have just 2 members and there are 10 dedenfers you could still raid and kill them all. You'd say 2 people aren't the gank - but it's only true when you fight someone prepared. When your group of 2 fights someone who was asleep 12 ticks and his/her protections are gone then 2 people is more than enough to kill anybody.
All possible scenarions of using OP look overpowered.
I never saw it in PK before and lately it happens very often. It's just 1 item (not too hard to get) what can help to kill and raid almost everybody.

21673, RE: Another possible scenario.

Fjarn got piped in this manner a few times. We'd set up to defend in a group vs. group scenario. Then, they'd pipe us at the inner and we're screwed. The inner wakes up the piper, but lets the entire defensive team dream on, only to be picked off one by one.
I don't know what was worse - getting piped this way trying to defend, or getting piped from a sneaking, duo'd transmuter while trying to raid. Very glad to see this being looked at and tweaked some.

Haven't been able to use it from duo for a while now, FYI, so that part did get addressed at some point.

Yeah, that was a really good day when I saw it was fixed. Didn't mean to imply that it was still like that, just drawing a comparison.

Maybe instead of a "Sleep" effect, it could be a "Calm" effect? Stops fight and stuff...
