21389, Water forms on earth
Posted by Andriana on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just reading through the logs on QHCF with walrus in them.
I am a bit surprised that such a powerful form can travel on earth anywhere it wishes to. I mean I could understand them travelling in areas where there is at least some river or ocean... But travelling around Prosimy? To enemy cabals? It is just plain wrong if you ask me.
I know it is hard for it to move, but you don't need to stay in walrus form to move around, don't you? You can always shift if things are getting tough and either word or simply walk out as another form.
So what about toning them down a way more while they are on earth OR only allow them to walk as walrus in the areas with great water sources (like in cities where there are rivers etc.)?
I just don't think water forms were supposed to be a combo of offensive/defensive form at the same time while not in their natural element.

I'm keeping my eye on this, to see how I feel it plays out. I have a couple ideas up my sleeve if I think what currently exists is too favorable for a water shifter.

21390, I think it is fine

Sure the walrus is like a tank on land but the movement handicaps are pretty redic. Any half competant noob should have no problem walking away from it if they need to run and if the shifter wants to shift back and forth between walrus and other forms then that also give you plenty of extra time to get away and drains mana and forces them to recast spells. All in all if you let a walrus sit there its nasty but its your own fault then for not exploiting its mobility weakness.

21391, So I guess

You will trade ridicilous damage reduction for faster movement given a choice? Seriously, any half competant noob have no problem walking away from almost any form (with a few pouncing exceptions or air majors). Lack of mobility is not a real weakness especially when this form has thick hide so you can't abuse something like flee/knife or flee/underhand effectively because half of your skills will be deflected.

21396, sure would

damage reduction keeps you alive, being faster makes other people dead I prefer the latter. I think the orangutan is a scarier form by far then the walrus, those monkeys are faaaaaaaast.

There should not be a reason I should have to walk away from any raid because someone got lucky with snagging the walrus and plays the I win button. The movement penalty is irrelevant here, there's situations that make it way too overpowered(Raids and Defense).
The damage output and dam redux ratio is not right. Walrus have thick hides, sure.. but stabs or anything piercing or slashing would destroy them, that redux is blown out of proportion. I think melee needs to maybe stay the same but get rid of all that dam redux. With full abs it should get hit like it would naturally with stone skin, even then it would stand toe to toe with most people. Every other form has to use full abs at hero to stand chances with exceptions of some defense forms, walrus shouldn't be an exception since it can come out the water... the place it is supposed to be.

I don't need to kill all the defenders to take an item or retrieve my own. Sure stopping them from taking your item might be rough but at the same time you should run little risk of actually dieing in the process.
and the movement penalty is only irrevelant if you make it irrevalant, stick and move son stick and move.

Uh, there is no stick and move if you are defending. In a non-raid PK, then yes. No problem. But in a raid the walrus is a de facto mix of offensive and defensive forms. I think that's what has players asking questions. POW, water forms are somewhat "nerfed" on land, as they logically should be. But for the walrus in raid situations the nerfing is largely moot. It does not scale to a cabal raid vignette. Not sure if it needs a fix though, novel tactics could help matters here but it does seem like it's a bit too good to be true.
