21183, observation
Posted by Klaak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
just curious, how does a level 22 character go through all of aran'gird except for the palace, looking at EVERYTHING, and only come out with 705 observation, and no exploration?

21184, I'm actually wondering...

How a level 22 character goes through all of aran'gird?
21185, very carefully
Posted by Klaak on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I suppose if you want to get technical, it wasn't ALL in the sense that I didn't go through the palace, didn't bother trying to peek at the big demon, and didn't wander TOO far out into the underdark part of the aran'gird mines (so I didn't get to look at the spirit dragon yet either), but I did go through all of the city (minus the palace, assassin, and demon), and looked at all the NPCs there (not the captain either, obviously). That includes all the citizens, blacksmiths, slaves, gate guards, both lieutenants, and even the dwarf captain and his team of infiltrators. I also looked at every keyword in every room I passed through, even looking inside any hidden containers that might be there. Still, only 705 obs and 0 exploration. I was not a ghost at any time for any of this.

EDIT: If it's any confirmation, I've also been through all of organia, and kteng's.

One of my previous characters was the level 20-something mage that prayed to Twist from Thar-acacia, too, if that's any indication. I remember you were a little surprised to find me praying from there.
21186, Interesting.

I understand how a 20 something can explore both aran and organia.

But ktengs, I happen to know you have to do something a lvl 20 CAN'T do in order to get into that place.

have help?

I think you answered your own question. You didn't really see anything of note, or go anywhere special.

21190, Rofl. You couldn't do that today

Isildur is right about k'tengs. You can't do it all at level 20. Also, I can pretty much guarantee you didn't do it all at level 20 even before. Knowing it as well as I do, there are certain bits you really don't want to be seeing. e.g. You know what's on the other side of that door on the south side the hall, with faces pushing through?

Besides that, it sounds to me as if you are abusing ghost state to get into places and try to get exp for edges. Imms, could I suggest that lowbies that die in explore areas just have to wait for their stuff to come back to them, and live with the risk that someone gets to it first and loots?
21193, A thief with gentlewalk could explore nearly everywhere...

only having to fear greet progs. At least from my understanding of the skill... So it certainly is possible at very low levels. Also, creep + pass door would get you into Aran'gird at level 19 and let you look around. Phase door at 28 for conjies would allow some careful exploration. Sneak hide on an assassin/thief... etc. etc.

It's doable.

A thief with gentlewalk could not go through Kteng's now, I assure you.
21198, Mine was more a general point.
Posted by Tac on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'm not that familiar with Kteng's, but from what I remember last time I was there, if I had the keys (they were dropped or something) I feel like I could make it through with gentlewalk... Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm not really talking about full exploration, but more like walk in and walk back out without being ghostified.
21200, I think I get your point
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
And in general it might be the case (although I still got attacked by aggro mobs quite often with perfected gentlewalk back when it first went in). So you might be right about Thar-Acacia, for example.

All I can say about K'tengs is "From the mortal shall come the divine" = "You aint getting past this bit by using gentlewalk these days."
21226, Urmm, I'll backtrack on that

For some reason, Vicaxion couldn't go through the entire area until he hit spectre or something. It was wierd, but definitely appeared to be "by design".
21225, Gentle walk angered me
Posted by Amortis on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Here are a few of the places where I could not walk gently past anyone:

Corte
Sirine Island
Gol'Galath (!)
Underdark
Drow city
Abandoned mines (near udgaard)
Bandits in those weird mines near redhorn
Arboria

It's ok. Some of you all just have that much trouble admitting when I am right.
