21121, Is playing a Conjurer suppose to be this hard?
Posted by Funnyone on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I actually am having fun with my conjurer, but it is incredibly hard. When I dont get easily killed by any warrior type, i'm getting killed by my elementals, and devils. It's already have enough to be a magi, but now I have to worry about the things I summon killing me instantely. I'm trying to have fun with this class, but I just think that you shouldn't need all those edges to be an effective conjurer. It should not be this hard to play them. Is the difficulty of summoning, and controlling these beasts going to become easier, or is it going to stay this hard. I might as well just delete it. I"m dying all the time, even with different mana amounts put into them.
Just wondering if any changes to conjurers is going to happen.
Thanks

For being overpowered in most cases. Yes, it sucks, and yes it seems to be worse than it use to be. But I tend to see it as conjurers are extremely strong in many ways, and to balance that, they must take a lot of time qand be extremely cautious of their servitors. I think perhaps a small bit of loving would be nice and there are a few bugs, but overall if you learn the ins and outs, you shouldn't die too often to your servitors. It will still happen, but that's the life of conjurers and why a lot of people don't have the patience to play them.

Being a strong evil conjurer is mostly about timing and knowing how to kill your servitors. Only thing I believe should be changed about conjies is the fact that you can lag familiars.

Yes, it is supposed to be that hard.
A skilled conjurer is a wrecking ball.

Unless they are going up against a dagger spec villager. Then they are just 'c word' or dead.

I'm thinking Kanaev probably beat down his share of villagers in his day, some of whom were probably dagger specs. Can't say for sure, though. Just a hunch.

By back in the day, you mean before dex changes? Yeah.. the only villagers I had trouble with before dex changes were giants... mostly axe users. Now it's daggers. Everyone is dagger. And I don't think it's so much dagger, as just the dex specs. I could post a log of my "overpowered" komodo dragon tearing up people, then try to fight a dark elf villager.... evade, evade, evade, evade, evade, he was at perfect health after a bit of fighting and the komodo dragon almost died several times. The same experience with recent conjurers, you could have elemental, archon, you, familiar attacking, and they stay at 100% hp for like 20 minutes of that fight with no bloodlust. It just seems a bit.. crazy. Maybe I have just been unlucky, but meh. Just my obvervations.

Well, that's obvious. If you took an angel on the other hand you'd rape the dagger spec. Some fights archons are good for and some they aren't. I can say from the evil conjurer perspective that I had little if any trouble raping dagger specs with anything besides a mors-gravis demon or weak devil.

It's not really so much dagger specs, per se, they just got the most loving out of the dex changes. I think just some SMALL nerfs to dex is needed, not much. Other warriors have the same problem, dexy warriors tear most other non-dexy warriors up. Perhaps not always, but the fact I know of only ONE rager who doesn't use daggers right now and isn't dexy... I dunno. There are things I think need changing more than dex, like frightful fiend, but that's another story.

I don't think Kanaev predates dex changes.

..which you cast to protect yourself from elementals and angels/archons/demons/devils. Summoning planar creatures is a dangerous craft and you should take precautions to avoid getting shafted by the servitors. Some such precautions are:
-Always use circle when you conjure/dismiss your servitor. -Do not use an old, used circle when conjuring/dismissing. -Pump a tad bit more mana into binding than you put into conjuring.

You've got to be kidding? More into the binding that the conjuring? that's be like 1300 mana binds! You'd have like 10 ticks with the damn things before you had to conjure again!

That's one of the downsides of playing an evil conjurer. I don't think you need to do 1300 mana binds per se, but if you're going PK'ing you're going to want a very strong bind since most of the time you're going to just be walking around (which pisses demons/devils off).

21139, for demons anyway

you don't really need any extra juice on the bind, just give them happy making things. for instance run though the ruined keep or darsylon and let them eat and arm quick after conjuring.

You'll have varying degrees of success trying to do that with high level servitors. The lower the level of gear/mob they kill, the less it satisfies them. In general you should kill every goodie mob you come across that won't hurt you much along the way to cheer them up but they still are pretty cranky when you're PK'ing compared with ranking (until you manage to PK someone). A strong binding helps prevent them from waiting 20 minutes to join your fights.
