20398, cosmetic fix
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I often see stuff like this:
Exits: north south (Iron) Off to one side of the path, a rusted iron spear has been driven com pletely through a tree.
The first line ran past 80 characters and, as far as I can tell, was line-wrapped by my client. Then you get the last bit ("through a tree") on its own.
Would it be much work to scan through the area files in an automated fashion and look for lines longer than 80 characters? Or is it not that simple?
Edit: In retrospect, it looks like this is caused by the (Iron) flag which was probably added after the original text was written and may only be visible to elves/half-elves. Guess I'll turn off line-wrap and see if that changes anything.

Bingo. Not an easy fix, but you can typo these, and I'll see if I can shorten the desc. It happens to mobs as well sometimes (Barrier, Sanc, Aura, etc).

Hey, while we're on the topic...am I the only one whose client displays (Black Aura) as *black* text on a *black* background? i.e. it's invisible. Seems like the ansi "dark grey" color would be a better choice?

Zmud renders it as black on black, so I don't see it. I had to create a highlight trigger.
It should be red or something.

You should be able to assign the ansi colors in the client somewhere, set black to grey and dark black to black. Then you won't need a trigger.

Yeah, but if *everybody* has to do that, doesn't that suggest it should be some color other than true-black? What about people using telnet (god forbid)?

Not everybody has to do that. Just because zmud uses odd ansi definitions does not mean that every other client does. I've never had a similar issue with mushclient.

I'll check it out w/ some different clients and flavors of telnet and report back. If it's just my client that's weird, then yeah, that's my problem. But if it's showing up as black-on-black in basic telnet...that seems like a bad thing.

20428, ok, checked out two telnet clients. txt

1. Telnet from the OS X "Terminal" app w/ TERM="xterm-color".
2. Telnet from a CMD window in Windows XP Pro. (Running in Parallels).
Bot show it as black, using the "color sign" in the academy:

Currently only shows White & Black. I've added Gray to it, which is the color the (Black Aura) shows up as.
