19628, Polearm boredom:
Posted by UncleArzzra on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just curious if the Imms thought it would be worth altering polearm skill set so you can charge a sleeping/unconscious enemy even if they were hurt?
I was having no fun with X since I tracked him down and tried the following with him sleeping:
charge X X is too hurt...
legsweep X X is already down
slice X you are not in combat
thrust X you are not in combat
etc.
Murder X... X is not here.. :P woke up and left on me.
Oh! And can the Imms give a general order for parrying effectiveness of weapons, please?

19880, Polearm specs should be able to charge all the time
Posted by NMTW on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That would about balance it out, I reckon.
I know not being able to charge an enemey that is below gushing is a balance measure, but polearm sucks so badly as a spec compared with the others that I donĀ“t think you could consider this a bad change.

With Norkibjorden, I could charge for unspeaks.
Charge, flee, charge, dead would be overpowered.

19637, Here is an idea

Well, give them an area attack perhaps? So they can do it out of the fight to.
Like:
You swing your polearm around your body and hit everyone in the room. ...bla bla bla.

You know, I kind of like that - I could see a strength-based attack where you tried to legsweep everyone that was fighting you. There could be a check for each person, and if any one victim saved, then the attack would stop.
Polearm makes for great mid-range tanking, charge set goodness (airforms eat ####), and chop is a pretty nice damage skill. An area legsweep type attack would be sweet, though.

Why would it stop? Just because someone quick jumps out of the way doesn't mean the sweep attempt should stop?

Let's take this example, which would be fairly easy to do in today's CF:
Polearm warrior with area-sweep Transmuter Invoker/AP
Mass cabal raid killer.
Area lagging, in general, is crazy. Giving as a warrior skill would be insane.
I've always been of the opinion that briars should be viewable via scan. Same with quicksand and gel (not snare, of course).

19643, actually i like the idea and for these reasons
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
1.) It would make legsweep something other then more damaging trip, imms claim its more reliable but the difference is so miniscule its not noticeable in practice.
2.) Legsweep is still negated by fly which is real friggin easy to always have except as a villager.
3.) if your using a polearm you still are only wielding one weapon which is by and large teh suck in dealing damage so anything short of permalag is not a super huge threat.
4.) assassins already have this group lagging ability and it has not yet proven to be unbalanced so why not add this utility to an already lacking spec?
5.) Could make it polearm only or staff and polearm only.

Pretty sure trip is dex dependant and legsweep is not so that might be why it is more reliable, I could be completely wrong though.

Since we're speaking of polearms, how do we know if a polearm is capable of THRUSTing?

Compatible damage type-- something like piercing or thrusting.
