19595, Heralds and their [Herald] tag showing
Posted by Plushka on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
How about making it so that when a Herald is in the Inn, their tag shows on who so everyone knows that there is a Herald in the Inn, like how the Tribunals show theirs when they're on duty. That way people know there's a possibility for some RP over there, someone to let them into the Lyceum, or just someone who can supply drinks for ####s and giggles. Also makes it so when there's a few Heralds sitting in the Inn, people will be like "oh score, lots of people in one place, maybe there's an event or maybe we can start something!"

I think a Herald title would be good like "kitchen bitch" as said before. I've been playin CF fairly regularly for over 6 years and I still like to roll up a herald every now and again. I dont think its fair to assume players who join guilds like heralds or fort are any more or less skilled at Pk, nor that they are more focused on RP. That said, Tagging you as every time you step into the Inn would be bad PK wise, as people like to gank. But, I think its a great idea to add that little extra title so 1. you know a herald is around and 2. Heralds can offer some unique skills. Maybe you want some snazzy cloak sewed up to fit your RP, or you want an epic hell trip documented by one of the librarians, or your bard is looking for some snazzy booze to stalk up on. These things add to other people RP and can be a lot of fun, But you may never know theres even a librarian in the heralds unless you spend enough time there to meet them.

Heralds aren't on and off duty like Tribunals. They are Heralds all the time, not just some people who just work there. If people want the tag, then it'd better be there all the time, not as a pointer that tells you when the Herald is inside the Inn. If you want an event, talk to the Herald and suggest one or ask.

I like this idea. I've always liked this idea. If not a tag, how about a post title ,title thing like "Artist of the Eternal Star", "Barkeep of The Inn", "Kitchen Slave". I can't think of a GOOD reason why a Herald wouldn't want someone to know they are a Herald.

Why wouldn't heralds want people to know?
Because pk orientated people (by which I mean the subset that pad their pk record in any way possible) who don't know they are heralds won't make a bee-line to the inn when they are on.
Also, heralds tend to be rp orientated, and probably, as a group, less pk skilled.

There's a small but significant subset of the playerbase that targets heralds. Seeing a tagged Herald on who pk is just going to make everybody bolt for the Inn hoping to score an easy PK, not for the reason intended.

19614, I can vouch for this.

Not because I'm a regular herald player at all in the past few years, but because it's what I've observed while grouping with them.
This would be fine and easily taken advantage of by some particularly clever players, if it weren't for the fact that the people targetting Heralds tend to come in droves(gangs of 2-4) and aren't quite as skilled as they think they are.
