19511, New? ideas about lowbie moves?
Posted by Xenoroyal on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Somthing's gotta give! World gets bigger, traveling boots get nerfed, mvs stay the same! Desperate for change, throwing these ideas out.
A) give level 1's +100 mvs, and lower their mv gains by 5 per level till 20 , figure its possible since warriors get bigger gains at like 40. (all numbers are for example only)
B) give the traveling boots a skill that increases fatigue recovery by like 100%, but goes down with level like the pathfinding skill
C) bring back oldschool traveling boots, nerf the prog by a resonable portion, and make them not function if you have adrenalin.
D) give all characters a skill similar to current pathfinding boots, where they all start out with pathfinding or fatigue recovery skill that goes down to 0 by like 20. Kinda like how everyone gets recall, but it does fatigue recovery or pathfinding, and is (100%)0% by 20.

19520, Yeah, unless you want to lowbie pvp.

Pass of Gol'Golath or whatnot is a nightmare to check Artowhatever. New past? Awesome area, have to sleep in and out to check forest of nowhere.
That, +, it's not like people are leveling on Galadon battlements or White tower anymore whereas they used to be prime locs.
Lowbie pvp, both attacking and being attacked, shouldn't be a super chore of sleeping for 30 minutes to check the areas (yes i barter stuff for heal refresh like its crack). Theres just no funstick there.
You can't deny the equation. Less people mudding in general + world becoming bigger + central lowbie ranking areas being nerfed + traveling boots nerf = not nearly as much lowbie pvp as there used to be. Lowbie pvp is just as fun as Hero pvp, I *want* there to be a good chance I get jumped by my enemies while i level. Thats Carrion Fields, them not bothering because it takes too much sleeping to check FON, then dol guldar path ect takes 30 mins of sleeping isn't Carrion Fields. MV regen on camalot/fine leather gear is nice, but you are still recovering 10% mvs/tick sleeping at 15-20. *That can be 15 minutes to recover moves, which will get totally drained going in and out of the past* for example.
It's not even close to, "haha, so you can't run to every area without stopping anymore deal." It's to the point of, why bother to lowbie pvp if I have to spend 20-30 minutes sleeping to check the areas? And if theres not crazy pvp, why play CF? If I hadn't heard anyone repeat the same sentiments, I wouldn't be posting.

To find pvp at 11-20, I usually have to go look for it. If people are not in town, they are usually either; 1) gearing/prepping, 2) practicing, 3) leveling.
While it might be cool if the world was layed out where everything lowbie was at a more central location, it's not, so I find myself searching places like HToS, Dol Guldar, Forest of Nowhere, and Arkham.
With lowbies small # of moves being drained quickly in the ever growing world, and their mv regen staying generally about 10% a tick, I find myself sleeping for vast, vast periods of time (about 30 minutes to check my general route) even using my barter refresh non-stop (running out of moves half way between checking an area/returning to healer).
When the lowbie experience was generally more centralized (white tower, galadon battlements), and the outlying places took far less moves to get to(compared to getting through new past, for example), I found 11-20 to be the crazy killing fest that CF should be.
And not just me wanting to pick on newbies, I mean people coming after me or us both finding eachother at full health in the middle of nowhere. The fear of being jumped as i solo level my 14 shapeshifter in Mirkwood was real, but I find a lot of people don't bother taking the 15 minute investment to check dolguldar/evermoon anymore at that level (my past like 5 melee chars practiced there, and only got interupted once dispite there being plenty of clear enemies on).
Trying to accomplish the same thing today just requires tons more downtime, and thats really not fun. I've talked to other players who relay the exact sentiments, so I just figured it was worth bringing up (again?).
I guess in summary, the many variables that have changed over the years just cause a LOT, LOT more sleeping to check standard areas for 11-20 pvp. I don't believe a midway compramise between how it is now and "lol travelers boots" age could possibly do anything but make Carrion Fields a bit more Carrion and a little less sleeping in Fields for 15 minutes.

While I see and understand some of your other points, this statement at least doesn't match my experience, with a level 15 bard plus new-school traveling boots, which leads me to believe you're exaggerating for effect.
And while I understand your want for competition, I like to think that the fact that people are stretched thin across a larger world helps keep relatively inexperienced PK'ers like myself alive at lower levels, without avoiding PK entirely. In today's CF, I encounter a PK situation without looking for one about once every hour or two of play-time at lowbie levels.
Also, while you may be saying you want people to run in and ambush your ranking group, many groups that I'm in deliberately choose ranking areas to avoid getting ambushed. So while I agree that this sort of situation is exciting and fun, I don't believe your desire to make it more frequent is a common sentiment, even if you're not the only one.

19512, How about +moves regen to all the fine leather?

Might make going places when you are ranks 6-15 a bit easier.

Oh well, I guess I'm not the only one that thought that would be a good idea.
