19169, Hiltsmash
Posted by Vladamir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was looking over some old logs, and something occured to me. Hiltsmash is smashing the hilt of your weapon into the face of a foe, blinding them. I think it would be cool to also allow a chance of messing up spellcasting/singing/talking by the person for the duration. Maybe make it an edge or something, and also make it available to other facial attacks (ala roundhouse).

Thoughts?

Hiltsmash is one of the most universally good moves in the two hand paladin arsenal. There basically aren't any edges that make a character's go-to move a lot better. There are edges that make a character's go-to move a little better, or edges that make a character's go-to move moderately better but also cost so much that you forgo half a dozen really good edges to get them.

So I either don't see this happening, or if it did it wouldn't work a lot and it'd also be crazy expensive.
19201, Thats what I was getting at.

I didn't say it should trigger every time, I said a CHANCE for it to happen, and something like that certainly should be expensive on edge points.

My question is; the echo for hiltsmash is a hit to the mouth right? How does that cause blindness? :P

Cheers,

I can get an edge that lets me dirt kick for MANGLES and its only 1 round lag. Oh, and it should make your eyes bleed for 6 ticks and mess your vision all up because I put razoors in the sand! Muwhahahah
....
What? I'd spend the edge points to get this edge!

Sorry I'm just sarcastic but thats ridiculous man.
If your so bent on abusing the dirt-disarm like gayness that is your skill set, you should be in total agreement that Aps should beable to use worldbind for 20 mana and make it really hard to save against right? I mean chump skill for chump skill and all and give everyone with dirtkick the above edge, damn that'd rock as emperor or something.
19179, That edge would look something like this!

Your kicked dirt scratches Vlad!
You manage to hook a brick with your foot!
Your kicked brick MANGLES Vlad!
Your hurt foot injures you.
Vlad is convulsing on the ground.

Bigfoot: You are skilled at hurling large rocks with your dirtkicks.
19180, Hahahaha! That made me snort tea out of my nose. :( nt

There are edges and legacies that can make hiltsmash considerably harder to land, or outright nullify it. I certainly wouldn't think an edge to enhance it is out of line. Don't blame me if you can't work around hiltsmash, and consider it overpowered. :P
19187, There are edges and legacies that can nullify dirt kick too. Your point? nt

It was an idea for something new, to add more options and variety to something already existing. Don't like it? Fine.
19171, because one round lag and multi tick blind is not good enough nt

19173, If thats the way you want to look at it, why bother having any edges at all?
Posted by Vladamir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I mean hell, blackjack, sleep, blind, all of these things are pretty deadly in their niche as they are, who needs edges to make these things any better? Why don't we just do away with all edges because...Hey stuff is just perfect as it is.
19174, No.

What you just suggested has nothing to do with edges and their awesomeness thereof.

What you just suggested would make hiltsmash better than freaking tiger claw or hurl throat.

Two-handers whore hiltsmash enough as it is and cost themselves enough kills with it. It is also incurable. It doesn't need to be any better since it's only one round. A warrior can be trying dirt/disarm and lose his weapons FIRST to this skill in just dirt kick lag alone.
19175, In case you weren't aware...

There are both legacies and edges available that nullify hiltsmash, and at least two skills that I can think of that seriously weaken it.

If you think a chance of giving someone a one or two round mush mouth to go with a hiltsmash is overpowered, you need to seriously reaccess some of the edges that make already powerful abilities moreso. Thats why some edges are expensive. Nothing comes for free and everything thats powerful has some trade off. Lots of edge points is a fair trade off.
19176, Why not make it an edge instead of enhancement?
Posted by Nightshade on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you want it bad enough, you should be willing to pay for it.
19181, Did you miss me saying that like...three times? nt

19189, I can make an argument...

For AND against picking every one of the edges you're thinking of, including the ones that cost tons of edge points and are close to overpowered.

And it's not 'I won't get other edges because I chose this one.'

However the edge you're describing would immediately be in every two hander's repertoire regardless of expense.

Especially considering paladins can already do this with angelswing for their fist, (and that's two rounds btw) you don't need to make a one round ability that's already better than the blindness spell even more powerful, regardless of the cost and regardless of it's counters. Those counters are very specific and cost just as much or more to use than any associated edge point cost you could put on this edge, or this edge's percentage chance of that little extra bonus happening.

Just drop it for now.

Two things. One, how do you figure hiltsmash is better than blindness? Just because blindness can be cured? I'd trade hiltsmash for the blindness spell on a paladin any day, considering most people a paladin is fighting with won't have cure blind in their skillset anyway.

Two. Don't ####ing tell me what to do. If I want to drop it I will. If I don't then I won't. Don't like it? Then go away from the forum, roll up another mudsexxing fela, and piss off.
