Natural ties and all that, plus they are elves, there has to be some magic in that old black hat he wore!

Right from the helpfile.."Wood-elves prefer nature over magic and generally find themselves feeling out of place in cities and towns." Part of the culture behind wood-elves is what they have lost and gained by leaving those of high elves. Magic being one of the top things they've lost, but they've gained signifiacantly in nature.

I prefer brunettes over blondes, but I'd still hit'em both. That's why maybe only one mage class that has naturish ties. Or how about some more inherents that are useful for warriors besides watered down acute vision?

Magic and nature in CF are diametically opposed to each other. Look at the sphere magic definition and it becomes a little clearer why a nature oriented race should have little direct ties to magic.
The Sphere of Magic resides in opposition to Nature at the edges of the World. As the channeling of supernatural forces, the use of (non-divine) Magic can often reverse or upend the course of Nature and often has hidden costs to those that serve as conduit to its power.
From the text on spheres on the website:
...Two opposing powers shape the Elements of the World - Magic and Nature...
Link http://www.carrionfields.com/Help/Religions/Spheres.html
And from the Nature sphere: Seasons:
...Under the dominion of Nature, this Sphere is tampered with when encountering the Sphere of Magic.
I don't think a race so ground in nature should have direct access to any of the normal mage classes. Even though shapeshifters and invokers deal with things that might normally beconsidered natural. The way I look at it is that mages are manipulating nature or natural elements with magic not in conjucture with it.

seems to me to be pretty damn useful for a warrior in the wilderness.

For the most part rangers will be allies of a wood elf, so it has limited use.

Outlanders are nature-y, and shapeshifters, transmuters and invokers can still join them. Felar also used to resent magic, per their history, but they've even learned to delve into magic somewhat.
Edit: Lose the signature.

Wood-elf philosophy and culture are not synonymous with Outlander philosophy. While they have similarities and wood-elves tend to be the race that is most compatible with that basics of outlander ideology there are also differences.
Felar's on the other hand are very open about their delving into magic, from the felar helpfile:
...The wars of freedom were long ago, however, so many younger Felar are willing to forgive and forget, and some have even begun to dabble in the magic that once imprisoned them.
In my opinion the historical backgrounds of the two races have no similarities into why they would dislike magic. Thus, I don't think it would make sense to use that as a basis for why they should be similar now.
Edited for spelling.
