18015, Possible edge. Possible mob. Possible RP reward. Possible lot of things.

We have all been the goody who feels just a little bit dirty about putting on demon-faced talismans because they want to keep Amathylar or (insert other norem weapon here) cursed. I have twice asked Baerinika to restring two for me and she did both times. Unfortunately they were lost to those winged nightwalkers in the Chasm the first time and to a crash immediately after the second time. Is it possible that we goodies might somehow get an automated something or other that would allow us to restring things? Clearly it's something that would have to be policed, but you could log everytime something is restringed and if somebody is restringing wooden hummingbird pendants into fine leather cloaks so as to trick others you could smite them harshly. I just hate constantly going to Baerinika for this favor when there's possibly another alternative.
I'll be told to choose between RP'ing and powergaming I'm sure, but you never know until you ask.

Couldn't you just wear a container and put them into a container?
Nice one getting them restrung though. It always annoyed me seeing good aligned people wearing images of demons.

Take a step back and look at what you're asking. I remember Mayesha restrung a ring set with a single ruby for my bard once, and that was one of the coolest things an Imm has done for me and I thought it was the bees knees as far as immteraction goes. I was really really excited to have an item in the game that got specially done just for me, and felt pretty crappy when I lost it.
Kudos to Baerinika for restringing your amulets, I wish more Imms would do stuff like that because it's a really cool experience and privilage. Asking for the ability to do it yourself really really cheapens the whole experience for everyone else, especially if it was ever granted. I know you get a lot of Imm loving, but come on, that's crazy. Leave the Imm magic in their hands.
Buy a friggen knapsack for raiding Scion and wear the bitch. =P

Choose another weapon to wield then. Sheesh.

This makes me cringe.

It would, big time, which is why it makes me cringe. There are reasons this is a fairly high-level Imm power.
I just hate constantly going to Baerinika for this favor when there's possibly another alternative.
There is another option; it would involve creating an object with similar stats that is more palatable to good-aligned characters.
Though this would beg the question of why a good-oriented object would have those kind of negative stats. It makes sense to me for an evil object to cripple you in that fashion; not so much the other way around.

What about a good-oriented object would make it impossible to remove from your grasp? Why not just no_disarm?

I would have never thought to ask someone to restring that. It would have seemed a little presumptious from an IC point of view I suppose, to me anyway. I always figured if you are going to play the hardline then you have to accept that you are going to have to take some hits in some areas. Primarily min/maxing. Is it really that big of a deal to not being able to switch out your no_remove weapon?

Could tweak "noremove" to allow manual removal by wearers. Maybe attach some lag, comparable to what someone would experience during the process of getting two talismans from a container, wearing them, removing them, then re-wearing the original neckwear.

18023, Heh, I have an alias set up for that...

g talisman @container; g talisman @container; rem @neck1; rem @neck2; wear talisman; wear talisman; rem talisman; rem talisman; wear @neck1; wear @neck2; put talisman @container; put talisman @container.
It takes about 3.6 seconds to complete.

So do I. Can be made more efficient if your two neckwear are the same.
get all.talisman $container wear talisman rem $neckwear wear talisman wear $neckwear rem talisman wear $neckwear put all.talisman $container
8 commands vs. your 12. But, with obvious restrictions. I wouldn't mind if the lag for removing one of my neo-"noremove" items were slightly greater than whatever it takes to execute those 8 commands, since in that world there would be no need to tote around ~20lb worth of talismans. Or get (and uncurse) them again if/when you lose yours.

18025, Who says it has to be good-oriented?
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It could just be non-align related whatsoever.
I mean, there's plenty of gear now for each alignment that lowers strength for one reason or another, it doesn't have to be demon related to do so.
I'm sure the folks up in Imm-land who are more creative than me could come up with something clever. Or something lame, I doubt the playerbase would care that much.

item, facewear. bless magic +g -e -n
Blindfold of the Penitent.
Wearecho....
"As darkness slips across your sight and you feel weak as your mind is burdened by visual memories of all the sins and misteps of your life."
remecho....
"Your sight clears and you feel restored having been through an experience of penance."
or......
short obsidian tipped three-pronged whip +g -n -e
Held item. Useable. Must have bodywear off.
use whip
echo "You bring the short whip around and self-flagelate your back, drawing blood in payment of your sins"
each use is -5str for 0hr. use lag timed so you can use it 6 times a tick.
And these are just the first two to pop into my head. I have about 5 more ideas floating there too.
I think this argument of your post is more laziness than a real reason . *wink*

Both of these suggestions would require coding, which does not equal "easy" in my book.
It's not laziness; I can cut and paste a demon faced talisman to another area file, modify the description, and stick it on a mob. Would take about five minutes, max. I've done this kind of thing before. I just don't see a compelling reason why this gear would exist.
That being said, your thought process (and having recently watched The DaVinci Code) has given me an idea how it could be done, and still make sense to me. Just have to find the right mob.

Gabriel's Celice? I dunno, gabriel already has a bunch of stuff. One of those guys could easily have one though.
