17899, Minotaur Gear
Posted by Sam on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Now that the Minotaur Temple has been shut down for whatever reason, I move that we get some more minotaur gear back! Especially horn gear, at least there is some decent hoofwear available at low levels.

I had the same thought when I realized the shrine had been closed. We'll figure something clever out.

17913, What about the information inside?

I really liked that shrine, it helped improve my minotaurs roleplay vastly (as did Rhegma - up until then, I didn't even THINK of a minotaur having a tail).
The tapestries and stuff were laid out in such a way, that the Minotaurs looked less like a beastality festival gone wrong, and more like spiritual nomads trying to map what they were and what they've become. I had some great epiphanies in that smokey little hideaway. I vote just bring it back, and make it part of the seantryn area or something.
Though I don't think Seantryn needs yet more rooms for Tribunals to groan about when criminals tease the newbie seantryn magistrates :D Maybe there's a better solution.

17918, Might be a 'merge' project
Posted by Valguarnera on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've gradually been doing some maintainance work on old shrines, and the first step basically involves putting them in limbo-- the file exists and gets loaded, but (mortal) characters can't enter or otherwise notice its existence.
A few goals here: 1) Don't unnecessarily inflate the area count. This started with noticing places like the old Knights' cabal which was essentially a one-room area a few years back. People would duck in there to hide from PK and rest up with little chance of being disturbed by anyone but the most thorough hunters. If an area is historically important, I prefer to merge it in with its "parent" area to preserve the content. For many dead religions, especially ones that didn't have a long tenure, I don't feel it is as necessary to archive everything, and we just cut the area.
2) Don't confuse the priests. Regardless of what the wizlist says, you'll get people who will knowingly or unknowingly pray for a deity that hasn't empowered anyone for a year or more. This is worse than praying for an NPC deity, because at least most staff members will feel comfortable occasionally stepping into the shoes of a random NPC. However, you're very unlikely to get a staff member to act as a past immortal PC, barring specific permission from the original player.
3) Lower overhead. Every once in a while we make systematic changes that require re-touching all areas. This takes a long-ass time as is, and we don't want to waste time retouching an area that's never going to get used for anything.
Normally, you can cut a shrine without any big loss, but the minotaur racial background likely merits preserving the area as a 'merge' scenario. The equipment is not a big deal to me-- there aren't that many items in that area, and we could rapidly replace them in existing or upcoming projects if we wanted to cut the area.
