17409, Shifter Forms and Skills
Posted by dalneko on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
From reading logs and so forth, I noticed something when it comes to certain forms and melee skills. Why is it that melee skills such as trip and legsweep work on forms that very obviously have no legs? Such as all the snake forms, the manta ray, shark, tarpon, etc. for example.
A more recent example being the Tsyda's log where she's in her giant clam form and Vhloughvang is still able legsweeper her. How does one legsweep a clam when a clam has no legs? When similar mobs such as the python in Ysigrath cannot be tripped due to lacking legs as per the echo? Could it not be made where the same is applied to shifter forms that fall into the legless category? Since you already have some forms that cannot be affected by kotegaeish/kansetsuwaza due to lacking wrists.
In the same vein of things, why are you able to hamstring a form when they have no hamstrings?

Legsweep doesn't work on things without legs. Trying it on an anaconda returns "He doesn't have legs to trip.".

17420, Giant Clam Log Excerpt

Guess the giant clam must have gotten missed then. Which is understandable considering it is a quest form. Though then does that mean that water forms without legs can't be tripped or legswept either when they're on surface water?

17421, That is not the skill legsweep, persay

Please do not mistake it as thus.

17423, No, but it is the skill trip.

Which also falls into the lines of the thread. Since you should not be able to trip or legsweep anything with no legs.

It's not the "trip" skill either, if I'm not mistaken. It's a prog from the staff Vhloug was using (which is actually better than standard trip, imo).
That said, it still probably doesn't make sense as the initial post was saying. I agree.

17412, shifter thought

While I have not played for over 2 years now, I do continue to "browse" the forums, call it nostalgia.
However Ive always loved the shifter class, and what has occured to me is why can they not use their offensive spells in form. Like fumble, fearie fire and such. This would give them some more choices. Have the spells cost double mana or something. It would limit is strenght but give added flavor to the class.
As for legsweeping things that have no legs, that is amusing, as shifters are very vaunrable to most warriors. One physical malediction and the shifter has a long lagg on shifting. Not to mention it also damaging the shifter.
Just a few thoughts. LH
PS!. It is very exciting to read up on improvements that have been done, tremendous work. The flavor of combat has risen to new hights since I started playing in the second age. Have a nice easter.

I agree that shifter's without legs, a la clam, and others mentioned, shouldn't be getting tripped or legsweeped.
It would be doubly awesome if shifters could use some of their spells in form. Think talking dogs and horses. I think it'd be comparable to druids, except they pray, as opposed to casting. Being able to cast would just open up an entirely different dimension for an otherwise flavorless class.

17414, Casting spells in form
Posted by dalneko on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Don't they do this already with enliven? I mean, you can cast haste, slow, fly, stoneskin, pass door, and control translucence already in form. It's not like shifters can cast spells on others anyways so really, what would be the point?
I'm fine with the way shifters are set up. I just wish there were more socials available to them so that folks like myself can add more flavour to in-form RP. As far as combat goes, yeah, it gets boring typing 'bite' or 'peck' all the time. So it'd be nice if they got something more to do in a fight as well. But hey, that's another thread.
I just want to have someone address the whole tripping/legsweeping forms with no legs. Nevermind the whole a shifter should be making use of enliven and controls anyways. But still.
