17253, Alignment restriction only for limited items
Posted by Void on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
1. More balanced between alignments.
2. Opens up more possibilities and creativity for role-play.
3. Make more sense IC to me.
4. Makes "detect alignment" kinda spells more useful.
17254, Why?

If an area author wants to write an evil-themed item or whatever, why should we limit it? Or conversely, if an item is described to be holy and good, why should we enable necromancers to wear it just because it gives +10 hp?

First of all, it's not like Thera is short on items. They've nearly doubled in the few years I've been wrangling areas.

Second of all, blanding everything subtracts from roleplay.

Third, it homogenizes every character's equipment choices further-- your dark-elf invoker is probably wearing exactly what your elf conjurer was, namely the best items you know how to obtain at that level.

While one definition of "balanced" can be is "all characters are exactly alike", it's not the definition we're aiming for.

17255, Because these are too common

Thanks. I agree with all your points.

I just want to highlight that my suggestion is to have alignment restriction apply to only items with "limited" flag. As these items are too common, in my opinion of course.
