Losing exp while having a wanted flag (usually trib guards, city guards, etc) seems like a bit of an occ punishment to me. I shouldnt want to not get wanted because it will set me back in ranking, I shouldnt (or should) because of IC reasons.

Thoughts? Discuss/bash/hate/

I think it is fine as is. The risk of death, hostile npcs, and instant cabal as an enemy seems sufficient to me.

There needs to be something that will still be effective to deter crime as a hero. Guards are not a problem usually then, except the enforcer. But I can not think of anything better at the moment.

Permanently hostile guards, in that they exclude you from the city and attack you if you somehow find a way in.

Death and con loss. Having guards harass you, tribunals hunt you, maybe even an automatic bounty placed in/by the major cities that will encourage other players to kill you to collect that bounty.

It just seems to me that the loss of exp is more of an ooc punishment as opposed to an ic one.

I don't mind the xp loss from a flag. I just sorta thought this was an interesting question you brought up.

1. How about being unable to purchase from shoppies in protected towns?
2. Being unable to even enter the city without guards stopping/attacking you at the gates?
3. City healers no longer offering their services?

Maybe some of those suggestions don't even make sense to me in an RP sense, but I was more or less thinking of something along the lines of "Your kind isn't welcome here." like they do at the Inn. Perhaps make it after a certain number of times wanted or a certain number of hours spent wanted.

Dunno, just thought I'd toss a few things out.

Two out of these three already apply to someone with a WANTED flag.

Generally if you attempt to buy something from a shoppie in a protected city they will yell that the criminal so and so is here -and- attack you.

The guard thing is obvious. Any and all guards in cities or on the roads will attack you on sight when you have a WANTED flag.

Healers still heal you though. That's always a plus.

I meant more of on a permanent basis. If you get wanted say three times? You never get to shop in a protected city again. The guards always stop you at the gates, and city healers no longer offer their services to you, etc.

Wanted flags shouldn't change from the perspective of how they work. They should just take away the xp penalty and add the above penalties to career criminals.

Thats what I meant.

It doesn't have to be so (for lack of a better phrase) hard-assed. I like the notion of "Hey, I'm flagged...so I have a whole cabal that will try to kill me as well as every guard mob, AND I can't buy from shopkeepers in towns...game on," rather than,"Oh #### oh ####, I'm ####ing flagged man oh #### this means another hour of mindlessly killing mobs if I get killed!"

Just my opinion here, but there is too much of this "hard ass," no tolerance attitude in CF, and it has always been there. I'm not pointing it at any one person, but it is an overall sense that no one here is willing to budge a god damned inch on anything...it's always been frustrating for me. But, hey, it's still a great game.

"..if I get killed by any mob.", that is. If a PC gives the killing strike, you don't get into xp hole.

So, died to a player as wanted, no xp loss. If the killer had been any mob, I would have gotten into the xp hole.

Since dying to a PC while wanted SHOULD result in xp loss, as things stand right now. I do know of at least two ways to avoid XP penalty while flagged, but I haven't tested either one in forever since I just accept the xp loss as part of a flag.

I think it does have to be so (for lack of a better phrase) hard-assed. Of course, that is why I asked for alternate solutions. If you bring a solution to the table instead of a problem you are more likely to get a coversation or debate.

From my standpoint. If there isn't something that makes you think twice about committing a crime, Galadon is no more protected than the Eastern Road. That may be fine for veterans of CF, but you need to think about the new and non-vets as well. There needs to be a place that is at least a little-bit safe. Major cities and their guilds is what we've decided that place is. People are obviously still targets there, but it's not like the Eastern Road where you do where pk, see someone and start chasing.

On top of that, with the changes we made to XP holes however long ago that was, I think this is really not a big deal. A smart person takes that into account when they decide to commit a crime. I'm 1000 xp from a level...I'm probably not going PK'ing in town. I just leveled....what the hell...it'll only add a couple thousand XP to what I already have. I'm already in an XP hole...nothing else to lose but con...let's do it!

It makes -me- think twice, not my character. I'm not sure how this plays into a IC reason...not that it doesnt, I just see it as an OOC consideration instead of an IC one.

And to reply to one a bit further up, my post was naming 'punishments' that were IC that already existed plus an idea for a new one.

What if there was an outlander power that negated or mitigated the penalties for dieing while warranted? This makes sense both IC and OOC, to me, and allow you to change the penalty for others.

If that's done, then you could make dieing while wanted result in the loss of a full con point. That would be a serious drawback, and have the benefit of also affecting heros.
