16421, Two Questions

One is about AP races: how does any other race come even close to being as good as a fire giant? Sure, they've got a terrible xp penalty, and therefore pk range, they have a vuln (not terribly easy to hit, and able to be covered), and they're horribly, terribly stupid. And evil, but that doesn't hurt too badly as an AP. On the flipside, they're huge, so very good at (and not vulnerable to) bashing (possibly the main benefit?), resist physical, huge str and con, and resist fire ain't the worst thing in the world. And two-handed weapons in one hand?
Is there anything I'm missing, or are fire giants slightly op? omgz0rz
I ask this, because I want to play an AP, which, given the stakes, I'd want to be as beefy and powergamey as possible. Playing stupid races is just so painful, though.
The other: Daevryn said something a bit ago that a poster "assumed that a necro would always want their zombies with them, which definitely isn't the case". Could you elaborate on that? What could be bad about having your zombies with you if you can make them, besides taking them somewhere they'll get stuck or get killed so fast that they're no help or benefit.

Well, as a drow necro I often didn't want zombies because I didn't want people to be able to tell when I walked in and out of the room.
Also, if I was fighting imperials, I'm guessing they might be able to shove me in front of zombies?
