16301, Long-term level-sitters

I've noticed that one nameless player within my range will not title up. He sits on a very good skill, shamelessly (ab)using that skill on anyone within range and when he can. I've spoken to this fellow, his excuse is that he can't find a group. However, I've also seen him with cabalmates in his grouping range yet he doesn't use them. He could hero himself in a couple days, yet has shown no effort to do so (he's got a fantastic ranking class for what it's worth, my last character ranked with one of them). My thought is that he's afraid of the hero range (fly-to, murder shifters anyone?)

It's clear this player should rank up to fight the hero range and there's been discussions on another website whether he should or not (so far they're about 50-50). Anyway, here's a couple ideas to discourage this kind of level-sitting.

Allow heroes to fight him as if he were distended - do not wait till he'd normally distend.

Take away his powers through means that are known of (I'm not going to reveal this fellow's class).

All being said, I and a lot of other people want to fight this guy at hero, not with him being able to use a certain power of his that can't be avoided very easily and sitting at the title he is at.

Thoughts?

There are some Outlanders I simply refuse to travel with. People who have either proven to be too big a liability while trying to rank, or who I just flat out don't like or trust because of things they have done in the past.

Thats one of the nice things about Outlander. I'm not required to like everyone else or spend one second of my time with them if I don't feel like it. I can virtually guarantee the person you are talking about is someone who falls into one of the categories that make them an undesirable groupmate. I suspect from things other Outlanders have said that they have the same reservations about travel with said person that I do. I can easily see this person not being able to find a group.

We've got distention. I'm happy with the numbers on distention. If distention isn't kicking in, then I basically don't care.

If someone's empowering imm or cabal imm or what have you wants to tell them to level and set consequences if they don't, that's their business and I support that... but it's not a rules matter and it's not a matter that needs a code solution.

There were a *lot* more level-sitting characters in the bygone days of CF, and I'm not wholly convinced that this made things worse. As long as a player can't build a character that is never intended to level past level X (as very old school thieves often were at 30, for example) and kill unlimited people that way, who cares?

In many ways CF is a game that gives you as the player the chance to do something about things like this that bother you. If the character is in your range, kill them. If they're not in your range, you should have more important things to worry about.

I don't know if it is the same case as with that thief that was abusing the pwk potions, but obviously some things don't count towards pkcount. I'm not sure that certain skills do or don't, and I'm positive some skills aren't nearly as dangerous as people are making out (they just don't understand how they work). But that is neither here nor there. I think in this particular case, it would be assuring if an imm were to say that yes these kills are counting toward their pkill count. Personally I don't care, but ya know...
16304, In this case, I'm pretty sure they are. (n/t)

But to hear people talk about the character in question, s/he'd be killing way more than they actually are.

I'm surprised more of these people don't play Heralds considering how much they love drama. :)
