Does this only up damage against opponents for whom alignment *and* ethos are opposite?

For instance, if a good-aligned chaotic shaman fought a good-aligned orderly character, would this edge apply?

Question about CLAIM THE UNFETTERED:

The helpfile talks about "siezing that power for themselves". Does that mean an instant mana regen equal to the amount the dispelled effect cost to cast/commune/sing, or does the dispelled effect move into the shaman's own affects list?

Yes. And it's effective communing level and not damage, so also useful for, say, weaken.

The latter. Dispel someone's stoneskin prep, and what's left of the affect is now yours. Or a chance for that, anyway.

The theme with most of the descriptions of these seem to be that they scale. The scenario you provided would be the extreme, while both shamen would do the least damage to others aligned with their same ethos/alignment AND do the least damage to True Neutrals. Is this the case?

One I forgot (that I think you already answered, but not 100% sure):

Will edges be granted retroactively based on characters' already-accrued exploration, commerce, and imm-awarded xp, or are they based only on stuff gained since edges went in?

Yet another question:

INQUISITOR
An inquisitor's demonfire and similar communes are as effective in smiting

What are "similar communes" to demonfire? Holy word? Damnation?

Yay I get to answer one. My original suggestion for this edge was something along the lines of: "Any offensive commune is just as effective against your own alignment as it is against the opposite alignment."

So any communes that look at alignment before determining how (well) they work.
Right now the only communes that do that, I think, are demonfire, holy word, and dispel evil. And, well, a good align who wants to use dispel evil against another good align is more than welcome. And trying to use holy word against your own align is in almost* any case a Bad Idea (tm).

*I can think of one case where holy-wording someone of the same align might mess them up a bit (or communing frenzy on them), but it's not a tactic I can think of a really good way to exploit.

We retroactive'd as much as was possible.

A new character who did all the same things would come out slightly ahead on edges, because 1) of things that weren't possible to retroactive and 2) because faulty edge-calculating code I wrote permanently ate some historical information useful for one kind of edge award on a lot of characters.
