16023, Immortal Coders know everything...or not...
Posted by Zulghinlour on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So tonight a bug comes through the board about dual-wielding nodisarm weapons being dropped via strength loss. It turns out I don't know everything...and there is some #### that's been in the game for years that I don't know about.

The conversation went like this...

Zulghinlour <60>: strength loss always drops weapons

Daevryn <60>: It's theoreitcally not supposed to take nodisarms.

Daevryn <60>: didn't used to, as far as I know.

Zulghinlour <60>: since when?

Daevryn <60>: The creation of nodisarm, as far as I know.

Zulghinlour <60>: Well...since I didn't touch anything to do with strength loss code, I'll call ####

Daevryn <60>: I swear there's code that's like, if both weapons are too much weight for you

Daevryn <60>: if main is nodisarm, drop the dual, if dual is nodisarm, drop the maim

Daevryn <60>: if both are nodisarm, do nothing

Zulghinlour <60>: ok...I'll look for that

Zulghinlour <60>: hmm...looks like it's supposed to work exactly as you say (and I swear this is the first I ever heard of it...now I want nodisarm eawponas)

Zulghinlour <60>: and typing lessons

Daevryn <60>: They were something Nimbus came up with, if that dates it.

Daevryn <60>: The Destructor's weapons are the original Nodisarm weapons.

Zulghinlour <60>: christ...this is the perfect example of all those folks who think imms (coders especially) know everything

Daevryn <60>: No kidding.
16110, It's not important whether you know or not

It's important that you can learn anything you don't know at any time.
And this is a perfect example of that, too. :-)

Six years later...You have to know about it, to want to learn about it, which I obviously didn't :P

16095, A question for Zulg:

Is wielding weapons something your characters do a lot or are you still stuck in the rut of those uber-invoker masters you used to play? :D

I currently have one that wields weapons alot, and another that is rut-astic.

To be honest, I thought this was widely known because it was how folks changed nodisarm weapons without getting them uncursed. Just get a couple of some certain amulets, put them on, and your strength plummets and the nodisarm weapons fall out of your hands into your inventory to be wielded when you really needed them but not otherwise clogging up your hands.

16047, You're incorrect.

Nodisarm is not the same as cursed. What you posted works only for removing cursed weapons and maintaining the cursed attribute to it. Regarding a nodisarm weapon (think humansunder, defiance, mel-kartha, etc), one can simply remove them like any other weapon with complete ease. But, they can never be dropped via strength loss, disarm, boiled leather shield, fumble, or anything else similar in design. The -only- way to remove a nodisarm weapon is if the wielder decides to remove it or use another weapon as replacement.
16083, I believe there's one exception

Using a 2h version of defiance, I think a got my wrist broken with kotegaeshi raiding empire and it removed defiance from my wield.
16126, Dunno if - You're incorrect. - But

Back in the days where i had a nodisarm weapon, only one thing made me drop it ever!!! That was to a muters disrupt organ!

"Noremove" is not the same as "nodisarm". Nodisarm weapons are very, very rare. Basically there's no way to get them out of your hand short of you dying, or you removing them. Strength loss, strip, grapple, fumble, sleeping disarm, grease, etc. None of those make you drop a nodisarm weapon. But you can remove them normally. That's why they're so sought-after.
16057, Heh, my bad, got them confused in my head n/t

16034, So your telling me
Posted by N b M on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The code is supposed to be that... If you get two no disarm weapons, NO MATTER what happens, No matter what, you can't get disarmed, Ever, never, never?!?

That just seems insane to me for some reason.
16059, What about binds of binder thief? n/t
