15728, Permanent weapons and Permanent gear

I would obviously never benefit from this idea but here it goes.

Suppose that when characters Hero’d they could continue to amass experience and use that experience to bond items to their person thus making them similar to a hero weapon that comes back to them upon death.

No Progged or limited items perhaps but the item gets a no remove flag and remains a permanent part of the characters inventory.

As a starter I would say a Hero automatically gets to bond one item, and then for every 20,000 exp (For example) thereafter they can bond another.

Maybe you could get one non-limited item of your choosing with outfit command as a hero bonus. Maybe it could be a general edge option.
15775, Something anyway.

When I hero'd, I was looking at the screen waiting for it to explode.

Not so much!

I'm guessing this edge thing is going to be kinda cool.

I don't see us implementing an Eternal Experience TreadmillTM for rewards.

15760, Assuming no progged or limited gear

I think it could be interesting.

But it would mostly be an RP thing. I don't know any unlimited pieces of gear (preps, maybe, but gear, no) which would drastically change the face of game balance.

This would completely and utterly change the game dynamics of CF. One of the rewards of heroing is that you don't have to freaking rank anymore. Now, there would be a *large* incentive to keep ranking. Making arbitrary item noremove (esp. if it's a weapon) would be hugely overpowered. Having items permanently bonded to a character would screw with item limits. What if I get a unique item and bond it to my character? Nobody else gets that item until I delete? It would also prevent anyone else from *looting* that item from me, should I happen to die in PK.

Except if it was unlimited gear. In which case, it'd be utterly worthless so why bother?
15756, I can think of a couple reasons off hand.

RP being foremost.

As far as Noremove goes, I was thinking more along the lines of armor not weapons.

And it would be a change on some level, but it wouldn't change the whole dynamic.

It would be a drastic change for limited gear. It would never recycle, once I got those strange bracers (or pick another piece of unique/highly limited gear) they are mine until I delete.

I really don't see this happening.
15770, I did say limited wouldn't be included in this.

And I'm not in love with the idea. It was just a thought.
15739, Neat idea.

I think that's a great idea, except I'd limit it to only one (possibly two) items. It'd give players a good reason to get to hero.
15741, I wouldn't limit it,
Posted by Pro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
But I might increase the exp needed to secure each additional piece.
15734, SPECIAL PERKS.
Posted by Lightmage on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I like this idea...Butmake it more like leaderweapons. For exceptional roleplay, ect. It could be like shifter quest forms but for all classes. Maybe a creepy drow assasin might gain a special cloak that seems to take on a life of its own from the pervasive evil of its wearer. When the assassin dies next, the item would crawl back and adhere to him/her. The items would have to be like unique quest stuff to make it work. If someone is doing exceptional things they would gain some cool perk. Would work for all item types. Magical rings that come back to its wearer, ect.

I think it would give all players something to strive for. Long as it is limited to only one item.

If they added minor progs to these items it would be even better. Cloak that casts invisble, ring that casts teleport when your health is near dead...might make for a cool roleplay angle to have some poor bastard teleporting each time they are hurt. Swords that talk, etc.

I guess the point of this is to make regearing less painful? That's the only good thing I see about it.

Making it so characters need more experience to max out seems painful to me, even if it's not strictly neccesary to do this binding (but who wouldn't?)

I could maybe get behind making it so you can choose one or two non-limitted items to go into your "outfit" set. But I wouldn't want to see every hero have a set of permanent gear. Smacks too much of mmorgism where you can't ever lose anything (and yes I know it's only non-limitted gear, but still).
15736, You misunderstand.

Only available when you are a hero.

So if you want to go out and grind on some mobs the exp you accrue can be cashed in.

Might be more incentive to keep heroes around longer and for heroes to help non heroes hero!
15729, Would Mob Death cause loss of gear since EXP loss? NT

15737, Nope. It's all earned after Hero. n/t
