15442, Speaking with the Gods
Posted by Plushka on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So I have a Goddess I worship in the game and I found another person who worships her as well and they suggested that I find her shrine and go speak with her. So I did. Wellll I got there and I had no idea what to say/do besides thank her for my form and pay my respects. What exactly is there to do to interact with the Gods ICly that doesn't make you seem like an ass? :P *isn't much for asking anyone for anything*

Treat them like people have treated deities since the dawn of time.
1. Worship them. Give them praise, pay homage, etc.
2. Make sacrifices to them. Leave gifts at the shrine to express your gratitude or curry their favor.
3. Ask them for things. Strength, discipline, perserverence, divine protection, blessing, that you might vanquish your foes, etc.
4. Confess things to them. (Not appropriate in some situations).
5. Relate to them as individuals with personalities, albeit individuals vastly more powerful than yourself. Tell them jokes. Say what's on your character's mind.
Note: not all of these may apply for a given deity. Don't plan on palling around with Cyradia, to give one example.

15446, Interesting question...
Posted by Rayihn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I, at least, take a very reciprocative view on RP. I'll give nudges to my followers once they're comfortable with my style if I think they need it, but otherwise I pretty much wait to see what you want before I dig into the RP. I do this because everyone has a different style out of what they want to do in CF. Some people really do want to sit down and RP for hours on end. Others want a quick empowerment so they can go on their merry pk'ing way. Both are fine, but I'm don't want to bore someone who doesn't want to hear my spiel if they aren't interested.
I'm also sort of hazy on followers that are outside my spheres. Immortals don't generally tattoo out of spheres, and if your role doesn't really mention any particular worship or reason for worshipping that god outside of sphere, I'd hope you'd understand why an immortal might be a little confused.
So, in general, have something ready to say/talk about when you go before this goddess again. Give her some 'reason' (har har) that you're there.

15447, Interesting distinction...

... I've always seen the two terms as being pretty much interchangeable, and "Immortal" kind of has an OOC connotation. Why do you prefer "Immortal"?

God always feels to me like someone needs it for their ego and/or power. Immortal is the distiction which I am comfortable with, which sets itself apart from the mortals, but doesn't feel egotistical to me.

It's also why I tend to use "staff" for the collected group, or "administration" for the senior staff ('help admin'), in the context of OOC decisions. If it's an in-game matter like roleplaying, I'll use "Immortal", since it's often appropriate to the context. That said, "Immortal" is the official job title, so there's nothing wrong with using it.
"God" is the moniker of choice by players in the Realm of the Dead describing why we abuse our power and take away their multi-ed silver pieces.
"Implementors" is also an official job title, though to me it doesn't carry baggage to me. I'll use "Partners" in a legal context, since as I understand it, it's the best description of our role within the LLC. Jullias has a fancier title, something akin to President.

15443, To be fair, imms can be just as lost
Posted by GinGa on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You have to as much give them a direction for interaction as they give you. Their religion is designed to be something that is explored as well as interpretted. Try talking things through, to see if you can discover some knew knack or piece of history (all imms have a history behind them, if you inquire). I've often discovered things so inspirational I've immediately added them to my roleplay. My Rayihn empowered paladin Raphru was a little lost to begin with but after a few chats, talking to her other follows, etc... I managed to find a place in her religion I was very happy with. Playing a vain paladin with a slighty chaotic ('free') religion is difficult but thankfully there is nothing in the Paladin's code that says you can't be vain. I liked to call it 'my extra virtue' :D
Try poking around the shrine, look for new ideas to juice your role. And if you really can't think of anything then just turn up to the shrine with presents and stuff, throw yourself at their feet and see how it goes. I don't think a God is beyond being asked for 'feedback' on their followers. If they've been watching you, I'm sure they'll have some comments both positive and negative.
Enjoy!
Yhorian.
