14939, conjurer familiar's where command
Posted by dawk on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My conjurer has a flying familiar and when it is flying above an area and using the where <players name> I notice that elves and drows are not showing up at all, but when I land the familiar onto the ground and perform the where command they show up. I don't recall that discrepancy in my earlier conjurer incarnations and was wondering if I could get a heads up on it. I realize sneaking people evade the where command, but if they are idle I always assumed where would locate them...thanks.

Yeah, that's about right. If you want a chance to locate those PCs, you need to drop down and take at least a token risk.

14942, Quirky tip..?

"whois abcd" should display your sneaky prey if he/she's in the area. It won't show you ~where~, but should show the player. So at least you know they're in the area. Note, I think you have to type at least the first four characters for this to work on sneakers*. Weird.
Just a head's up.
* I might be on crack and this might be misinfo... it was this way for duo'd muters at least last time I was one. And to think that only took me 500+ hours to figure out**!
** If you nerf that, Nep, I have a friend of a friend's cousin who is learning how to build mail bombs. And his uncle works for the post office ;-P.
Edited: Second thought, maybe that's only helpful for transmuters because of the nature of duo dimension. I don't know.

14940, Well, you've pretty much got it.

As far as I've ever played, "where" will show you everyone in the area, but "where playername" will not work on any sneaking character. (Elves/Dark-elves/Sneaking thieves/assassins/etc)
