14757, Lore is more a scholarly-like accumalation of gathered knowledge over time
Posted by Kristof on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
And generally concerns information that is otherwise not easily discernable.
Using lore the way you describe falls under what I would call common knowledge.
Also, much in life is about trial and error. What you suggest would make people in Thera all-knowing. How boring is that! It's much more fun to just go ahead and try and find out what the mob is vulnerable or resistant to.

14740, Why not just improve the con command?
Posted by Valkenar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Why make it have anything to do with lore?
As for what's in there, I'm pretty neutral on most of it, though I really would like race to be in con, where applicable.

14735, Someone suggested improved consider

As a possible observation skill somewhere in the gap after improved compare is received.
As you get better at it, you might be able to discern things about a mob such as race, vulnerabilities, "he appears to be a specialist in swords", "she appears to be a studied in the arcane arts", et cetera. Just some things more specific than "a perfect match". Maybe even something to indicate how much hp it has (in not so simple terms- like, "A kobold could be killed with a strong sneeze"... or, "Tiamat appears as if he might survive the apocalypse with the cockroaches"... ).
There are mobs that I come across while exploring which seem to be considered easy kills which are far from being easy kills. Occasionally even at hero level. More so for certain non-warrior classes who can't necessarily just brute force it. Because they do neat things like plague, disrupt, flurry, and so on. Conversely, there are mobs which consider razor or hooded which are really not too bad for one reason or another.
Sure, one could attack said mob and figure it out the hard way (I often do!), but you know... just something cool to add another facet to exploring.
You could think of it in terms of being a master at observation, certain things become evident about a foe that your average bear wouldn't pick up on.
Am I on any sort of track here, or barreling straight into the proverbial Mississippi river?

Yep.

14732, Huh?
Posted by Valguarnera on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
What are you proposing? Please don't make threads where you place a vague title and contribute nothing further.
If going into more detail is too much work, you shouldn't expect those who respond to give it any more thought than you have.

I would guess he's talking about allowing Lore to be used on Mobs.. As to perhaps learn some things about a special mob, stuff like that... probably...

14736, Exactly.

A dwarven guard stand ready here.
lore guard
As you look at the Dwarven Guard you gather that he is known informally as "dwarven guard dwarf". He is of the Dwarven Race. He is likely suseptable to: Water But resistant to: Disease and Poison His homeland is probably Akhan. They are about the size of a human. He appears to b of the 15th rank in his guild.

14748, That's called the "Condsider" command.
Posted by Rogue on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Proposing that that much information, vulns, resists, moblvl, is just silly. Even in the spirit of the Lore command, it's about objects, weapons, etc.
Maybe what you're trying to look for is some sort of Improved Consider which I can understand why you would want that, I just don't think that would be very probable. There are IC ways (easy ones) to get all of the information on said mob that you've listed.

If you're just here to antagonize other forum posters, don't be. Not like you haven't had warnings come your way, though.
I'll restore your account's activity tomorrow.

14739, You would really want...
Posted by Lightmage on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Imms putting this as a priority in their coding work they do?
If so please mail me some of the purple crack you are smoking.
Hell this sounds like punishment work for Imms that are in the doghouse.

14742, You're right!

It's just a discussion not a request per se.
Of course, if they'd just imm all us coders they have at their disposal, it'd be a lot easier to pull off something like this.
But yes, I know all tooo well about the mythical man month.
*Wink, wink*

14743, It was a crappy discussion opener
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Kind of like the opening speech of discussion leader where the leader puts zero effort in the discussion and opens with one statement. We've had plenty of these in Dio's and they are often as crappy as this one. I too wish they'd put some effort in the post to give people some idea what they want to be discussed. Just to allow more people to participate in the discussion when they have more idea what the discussion is about.
Just something to think about for Pro and other people who post nt's like this in Dio's.
