13853, Ethos Change.

If a chaotic evil were to take the bloodoath, would he/she lose spec skills/legacies? I know the align changes you take blows, but what about ethos?

I'm not sure if this is the case anymore, but the only classes really hurt by an ethos change are empowerment ones. Otherwise all good. Unless you happen to be a Lyristeon follower, at which point getting changed to orderly may well result in a tiny foot in your ass.

Our thought was, if you're a communer, it might be ok with your god that you're becoming orderly and swearing fealty to the Empire, and it might not. Thus, we kick your communing in the junk by default, and if your god is in fact totally cool with it, they can just turn the juice back on.

For best results, consult with your empowering deity first, which really RP should dictate you'd do anyway in almost all cases.

What if it's a non-empowerment class- a warrior who is sphere chaotic and ethos chaotic. But a change in the role flow takes me to taking the bloodoath. So long as its valid with my role, will I be penalized? I'm sphere chaotic, but I worship a made-up God, not a Lyrist follower. Thoughts?

Sure it'd be just fine. As far as the code goes you don't get penalized. As far as the imms go you have a role, whether or not it's spectacular (or craptacular).

Why would you do that?

Pick an ethos you want to play and stick with it. If you're going to mangle your char's RP, you're going to ruin the only part of the char that will matter in the end.

their role from there. Maybe they sync up with a Tribby, and become best buds, where the Tribby 'converts' them to a better path. Maybe they are not a strong willed character, and the Empire offers them protection (or at least safety from them).

I like starting with a Main Goal/Role, and then see what happens from there. If you're too rigid in your Goals, and something happens that makes it nigh impossible to reach them, then it's most often DELETE DELETE, rather than rolling with the punches and keepin on keepin on.

In those rare situations, where its an act of good RP, the penalty isn't much of a deterrent since it would just get removed eventually. Rather, I find, flimsy enforcement of align/ethos only leads to flimsy execution of RP regarding align/ethos. Sorta like why align changes hurt so bad.
