13749, Full Looting
Posted by terinth on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I rage deleted my first over level 30 character today after two full loots in the same day. (Whether or not I'm gonna reactivate is still undecided) But that's not the point.

Personally, I've never full-looted. One, because I'm not good at PK anyway, and two, because I think it's just an asshole thing to do and takes away from the player having fun. My question to you is: do you full-loot and why/why not?
13771, Full Looting is a test for maturity
Posted by Dwoggurd on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you aren't concerned about being full looted that much and if you don't bother to full loot by yourself then you are mature.
If you have one of these issues, very likely, you are a young player yet. ( as for reasons... they are usually retarded: like revenge or other semi-lame excuses ). With aging and experience, those reasons don't drive you anymore.
13772, Funny you should say that

Just recently someone ticked me off to no end. I mean had me seething mad. I hunt them down with every intention to sac all of their stuff. Finally get the guy dead and walk away without taking anything. It just isn't in me to be a ####. I guess I pass.
13770, The only people that full loot...
Posted by Lightmage on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Are people that in need of gear or can carry tons of things to sort later. Or lowbie looters that come across the fight.

Usually in the first case, they are recently slain or newbies.

Any skilled player is going to be holding tons of preps, extra weapons, ect. They will be unable to simply grab all your things.

There is always the prick character who will sacrifice everything, but these are few and far between.

If you dont want to get looted by lowbie looters, avoid having that grueling death match in the middle of Galadon or on east road.

Cabal raids are in this category as well. If you are dying during a raid, expect to be naked. If you cant handle this aspect of the game, avoid cabals.

With so few players in the game now, how hard is it to replace every single piece of gear if you do die?

There is nothing that is unattainable, unless perhaps ST or Hell gear.

I'll occassionally full loot a guy that keeps bothering me. Especially if they keep trying to gang me. Mostly just to teach them a lesson, typically against people who I have no reason to fight or hunt but for various reasons they hunt me (tribunal when I'm wanted, whatever) as a dincentive to do so. A somewhat recent example is Caroolth, who was a cool cat, but was pretty much constantly up my butt when I had a wanted flag.

It does serve a purpose, occassionally, albeit rarely.
13769, play a character with close to 100 deaths and full loots
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
then come back and whine. Not to just flame you but your obviously frustrated that other people are beating you at the game and your unable to stop them.

Instead of worrying and obsessing about the problem, i gots no armor, work on finding a solution. You have a few options that will actually accomplish something meaningful but posting like this will only get you flamed for being a crybaby (not that we all haven't cried about something or other but after getting flamed for it enough you realize how silly it was and stop).

first bit of advice is learn how to regear. Its not hard at all to get a set of gear to make you competative at every level and since you were geared before you died chances are you already know some gear. A mistake that most new players make is that they expect to go from naked to decent gear in 3 seconds. It would be cool if cf worked that way I guess but the reality is it doesn't. Going out and getting a set of real crappy newbie gear before regearing will take you about 10 minutes and in the end will allow you to build your regear much better then just mashing out outfit and running right to dern.

The second thing you can do is not put yourself into a position where you can potentially be looted in the first place. Avoid fighting at all if you know your going to loose (and don't brag about it ic cause its kinda lame to hear someone go tehe tehe you can't catch me before I teleport!) If you can't avoid fighting then pick your fights in less populated places. Die anywhere in a protected city or on eastern road or next to a cabal and don't get your hopes up for getting anything back. Even taking one step off the thoroughfares can go a long way in preserving your armor.

Third thing you can do is not full loot and even corpseguard other players you kill. My last character con died and honestly I was only more then partially looted 2 times. I earned the respect of my opponents in the mid ranks after repeatedly guarding their corpse. New player who take this route have a tendency to be whiney though. You shouldn't be point out what your doing 9 times out of 10 and when you do it cheese-a-fies everything. Never vocally complain about looting in game. If you must vent do so on irc or aim or something but if you whine once in character about eq you can more or less garuntee whoever you whined to will go out of his way to make sure your full looted every single time you die because in this community we don't like whining ic very much.
13773, Are you talking about Throt?
Posted by TheLastMohican on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Because I full-looted the hell out of you out of range with Ulzammon :).
13788, yes
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
and looting did occur but for the places I was dieing and the enemies that were doing the killing it was amazingly low. I think i left at least ten corpses in imperial lands at the feet of more then 3 imperials and got back every single piece of gear, some of which was decent stuff.

I almost never full loot. Most of the time I don't even try, but even if I did, most of the time it's not possible. Rarely can one of my characters hold his own gear, inventory, and someone else's stuff at the same time. I will, however, take "most" of someone's stuff, or sac it all, under some circumstances:

1. Someone's already done it to me, and I'm certain it wasn't lowbie scavengers who did the looting. In this case, they set the rules; I'm just following them.

2. Someone jerked me around in-game. For instance, an out-of-PK character who snatches my weapon when I'm disarmed, then refuses to return it. That guy's on the #### list for the duration of my character's life. I will kill him as many times as possible and levae him naked every time.

3. I'm naked or the guy's gear is vastly superior to my own. In this case, "taking what I need" is essentially the same as "taking almost everything he was wearing".

4. I'm in a highly trafficked area, and don't want someone else to loot my kill. So I grab what I can, take it somewhere safe, then sort it out. This doesn't happen very often for me.

5. I'm afraid my deity (or cabal superior) will penalize me for not full-looting.

6. I'm playing an Imperial and want to donate it all.

Number 6 is not an excuse any more, coins only donations. Number five sounds like some serious bunk.

Yeah. #5 rarely applies. But certain evil imms can be fickle sometimes, and any sign of mercy can get you whacked. I would have to have concrete reason to believe my deity wants me to full-loot before making it policy.
13758, There is only one good reason to delete
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That the character wasn't fun any more. Death and full looting are not good reasons to delete the character, there is always regear items for you to get. If the character itself isn't fun, delete, if you enjoy playing the character, then play.

No really, never. Rehashing and rehasing again does nothing.

While we're at it add these to the list of leave it alone already:
Ganging.
Deathblow is overpowered.
Cabal X is a bandwagon.
The imms nerfed x.
Dual wield is broke.

Take him with a grain of salt - I think he was born crabby.

Full looting is part of the game. Some people do it, some don't, some do dependant on situation, if it's happened before to them, etc etc. It sucks, it really does, but it happens to everyone who plays the game and you just need to develope a strategy to get yourself a basic set during your ghost period. Once you have a strategy down, it won't bother you as much.

Hope you come back from rage deleting.

Who wouldn't be born crabby? Taken from a warm comfortable place to bright lights, prodding and getting smacked. Gee, thanks.

I full loot with evil characters. Mostly so i can pick through their things and also so they dont come back right away and kill me. I expect the same treatment for those characters though.
13765, RE: Please never bring this topic up again.
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Here's a thought. If this person you just killed is someone you really need to "worry about" killing you, then full-looting them won't really stop them. Sooner or later they'll acquire another decent set and come after you. And they may decide to focus specifically on you, due to your having full-looted them.

So it's a temporary fix at best. You're "safe" from the guy only as long as it takes him to regear to a level where he can be deadly. Except now he may hold a grudge. And you're pretty much guaranteed that if/when he gets his revenge, you're going to be left naked.
13774, Seconded.
Posted by Eskelian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Though, I can't remember the last time a solo guy full looted me. If they do, however, typically he'll be the first guy I go looking for when in PK.

Anyway, full looting stinks, but its part of the game. If you don't play that much, it doesn't bother you that much.
13778, I'd rather go hunting for the non-full looting non-bastard
Posted by elmeri_ on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
to give them nice fights, thrill of PK, and in general nice cf experiences. The full looting bastard I'd rather just ignore, and make his cf life boring.

Unless he derives extra-special pleasure from killing people who try to avoid him. Which, I suspect, is the case for the typical "full-looting bastard".

Thats very true. Having people hate and hunt me would definatly be great RP for an evil character. It does suck IF they manage to come back and kill you, but thats just life. Its still fun in an RP sorta way. BTW has anyone gotten like "WTF?? what the #### is your problem dude!!" when you kill another character? I get this often. I sometimes speak to the immortals about it but if they arent being all THAT annoying i just claim they must be speaking of things in another realm and get on with my buisness.
