13743, Casting offensive spells on yourself
Posted by Drag0nSt0rm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Now, if I have a perfected sup, WHY can't I cast it on myself without totally nerfing my sups % that is just dumb, not everyone can use healers, I think we should beable to hurt ourselves of our own free will !

13768, Simple answer from a rp standpoint.

If you have mastered it, then you make a mistake by casting it upon yourself, have you truly mastered it? From a rp standpoint, it could be your guildmaster noticing you have not truly mastered the spell after all and forcing you to practice it more.

This seems kind of funny to me from a rp standpoint. I cannot envision any reason to set yourself on fire, or PWK yourself. The only reason to do this would be to target and or circumvent game mechanics. I suppose if you were a Herald, you could cast grease on yourself for those events held in the secret places only Heralds go.

it helps make you less bashable. unless the cast grease self was a bug of course.

that is just dumb
No. The loopholes I'd worry about first have nothing to do with skill improvement. As a trivial example chosen from many, being able to kill yourself without experience loss shortly before an NPC or area finishes you off.
Being that you're asking for a change, you should begin by saying what would be improved by us changing it, rather than just calling it "Dumb" and expecting people to jump.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you can tell its you casting it on yourself for the spell % penalty, why can't you just cause it to give a mob death if it kills you...?
I think it originally was an issue with perfecting stuff by casting it on yourself, why not just make it immune to improvement if it is cast on yourself?
My reasoning is that, one mistake can set you back very far and it seems like overkill for something like using the notorious "2." target.

13776, I remember the old Masters days where...

... where poisoning yourself was a viable tactic to avoid Villager assassinations/backstabs which required that you be at full health. Though, it seems that since then most of those backwards ways of avoiding being PK'd.

Being able to constantly bring yourself down to covered in wounds nerfs other class abilities like charge, backstab, and cleave.
