12796, Academy quest

Something that's bothered me for a few years now, since the academy clothing/practice weapon quest first went in: I think you should change the part that involves Pap. Anyone who has a rager character is pretty much forced to break role in order to complete the quest. At such a low age it seems like you wouldn't want to deprive any new character from the quest, and simultaneously not want them to have to act contrary to their intended life.

Perhaps change that bit of the quest by using a different mob?
12805, I just start RPing after that quest.

So, my Outlander would buy sleeves and my Rager would take fungus to Pap. It's really not a big deal if you don't play strictly according to the role in the Academy.

All quests, including that one, are optional. If you're advanced enough to be rolling a character with a specific cabal in mind, that quest isn't especially intended for you. CF players managed just fine for the 9-ish years where that quest didn't exist at all.

If we start worrying about every conceivable Rager role, then (as Trouble noted) we have to rewrite the portion that involves buying things. Then we'd have to rewrite the portions where you're doing things for no obvious reward, because evil characters should otherwise skip that kind of errand-boy work.

Down the road, we've spent tons of hours fixing something that isn't broken. I'm confident we have other fish to fry.

You have to buy the sleeves to finish the quest. Can't barter for them, at least the last time I tried the mob said 'I don't barter'

Hard for the die-hard Outtie wannabe.

I know this might seem small and trivial but this is something that I find quite annoying at times, especially with low int warriors.

Heres the Scenerio:

I am playing a low int warrior and want the practice weapon for the weapon I am expecting to spec in at 20. I normally will convert 1 train into practices with felar/storm types of warriors to get my weapons covered. As I go through the academy I like to get a couple of levels on the mobs in there so I can get the easy xp through the quest. The problem that I see arrises is as I get a lvl gain often I will get a gain in a weapon that is not my main choice weapon and then when I complete the quest I get stuck with some random weapon.

I know the easy solution is to either do the quest before lvl 2 or to not practice all of my weapons until I have done the quest. But is there at least any way for warriors to be locked into what practice weapon they get based upon the chosen weapon at character creation rather than what weapon has the current highest percentage?

This is stuff like Pap and what not are going to be looked at for a possible change.

Nope. That would be a huge pain in my ass. I could probably spend the same amount of time writing 2-5 skills for the next class revamp.

It's not true that it's to break role for ALL ragers... Not all ragers had their home/village/family killed/destroyed by mages... Some ragers actually have "learned" to hate mages, been convinced that it's wrong, etc...

What I say, is that although I agree that it may be against some roles, it's not against ALL rager roles. Of all my character, I entered Battleragers once, and had started two others that would end up there... And neither of the three were all anti-magic from the beginning. For one of them, it was even a decision on the fly... A rager was battleling a mage or anti-rager in Voralian and I told to myself: I'm going to follow the winner..

That being said, it could be a different mob for the quest.. Eventually.

A rager's life is full of sacrifice. A true newbie shouldn't be thinking about going rager in my opinion, and someone who knows what they're doing can deal with the consequences. Besides, what's involved doesn't actually involve magic.

Doesn't involve magic? Come on. You're doing something for the mage who runs a magic shop. Puh-lease.

And going rager shouldn't mean you sacrifice the very first quest reward that is presented in the game, and one that has consequences all throughout your newbie-hood, as the outfit command output itself changes.

You don't agree, ok, but your reason for disagreeing seems silly to me.
12799, I agree.

I agree with Vershelt. While there are some sacrafices that are made
in the path you choose in your character's life, based on race and
cabal choice, this quest gives you some fundamental advantages that
I think all players should have. Having said that, changing established
quests take time and effort from our all-volunteer coders, so wether
a change like this can be made quickly or easily, and just so a relatively
small segment of the population can keep in RP, is a matter of debate.
