12741, Orcs and identification
Posted by Chernomor on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Could you add a function of item identification to Tremblefist? vake him charge like 200 coppers for it, or something.
Orcs do not get any identification skill, neither they have friendly identifiers and this is just annoying.
Thank you.

Please, please, please, please. Make it possible to use 'heal' command at orcish healer :(
I mean, come on! I recall with 150 hp, with broken bones and bleeding from every dagger wound, and can't do ANYTHING but sitting on my arse and dying slowly (cant even get blood from container as too low dex/str). With 40 gold in my pockets!
Why can't I give money to this orc for him to kick this dwarf and make him heal me??? Orcs DO need it. Pretty please.

I could see adding a twist to this. Maybe you have to kill some "guardian" orc that's hogging the healer before he'll heal you. Or maybe he'll heal you, but it costs experience in addition to gold, since requiring healing is a sign of weakness. Not saying either of these is a particularly good idea, just examples of how orc healing could be "customized".

I'd trade this enslaved healer (by the way, being neutral or good how can it bless evil orcs anyway?) for normal heal anytime, but... I suppose Implementors planned for orc to live without a "normal" healer in their village, or am I wrong?
Idea with killing a mob before getting heal made me chuckle. It would be just as handicapped healing option as it is now as mostly when you use heal command you need urgent help, not fight.
Generally I wouldn't mind sacrificing experience for heal, but does it really make any sense? Instead, as orcs are primitive folks, that healer (or the mob_orc owner of it) could accept only things, not gold for services.

It wasn't too long ago that Grinning Skull had no type of healer at all. You just recalled and died if you weren't high enough to get hide yet (which was level 37 then) when whoever beat you up ran into the village invisible (since the gate guards couldn't see invis then either).
Just some sense of how far Orcs have come recently :)

I didn't want to look ungrateful, just suggested an improvement...
And, the way how it was, it was probably wiser to teleport than to recall to such a deathtrap.

12754, No worries and some ideas

I wasn't trying to seem mean. Its just funny because it is a lot better now than it was a couple of years ago.
But no identify does suck. There are two solutions that I can think of:
One is to get enough commerce XP to get Inspect Goods. Then you can at least ID stuff in shops or sell it and ID it. I got this idea from somebody on the forums, btw.
The second is to figure out how to get Improved Compare up. I already have it so it tells me what has better hp/mana/moves. I might not know the amount, but I know if it has more or less than what I'm wearing now. Valg said in a recent post that the usefullness of it goes up with skill %, so I figure it will eventually show more. That would tell me enough to be able to get around having ID.
Not as good as having lore, but something to think about at least.

Well, those are solutions, BUT mostly you get those nice skills later on, and you want to identify something right now.
Why not go to village shaman and ask? It's not like this is something overpowered, just nice to have for orcs.
As to commerce, Orcs need some bullying tactics to reduce cost of goods to substitute absence of haggle. Like, it could work rarely, but reduce cost considerably, if shopkeeper is below your level.
buy axe You flex your muscles and glare at the shopkeeper. Shopkeeper turns pale and drops the price. You buy a large steel axe for @@@.

12806, In addition, you just CANT get them from container
Posted by Andriana on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
IF you are poisoned, plagued, and bleeding, you never have enough strength/ dexterity to get them from container.
