12425, Shifters in form being attacked
Posted by dalneko on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Ok, first time posting and I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask this. But anyways.
Playing a shapeshifter and reading some of the old posts here, I know that when in form shifters are unable to speak, tell, yell, gtell, and so forth. This is the thing though. When in form and I get attacked, it's just a simple 'You make a noise as you are attacked' instead of the typical 'You yell, "Help someone blah blah blah!"' or 'You yell, "Die! blah blah blah"'.
My question is this. How come is it that the NPC mob animals, i.e. rabbits, squirrels, fox, sharks, what have you can yell but not a shifter in form? I mean, if you attack a bunny outside the Inn and run away because for some reason it was kicking your rump six ways to Sunday. When it tracks you down and finds you, it yells, "Blah blah blah, now you die!" Or something to that effect. Yet, a PC shifter in form cannot. Why not make it so that shifters in form only yell when attacked so that if help is nearby they can be aided?
Thoughts, comments, opinions?

I like it how it is, really. Mobs aren't held to the same restrictions as PCs and for a good reason. Now, as it stands, when you are attacked the entire area sees a colored message "You hear the cry of a grizzled ram" or somesuch which tells the form that was attacked. The fact that you don't know who attacked it, while not trivial, isn't the biggest deal. This way, someone looking to help will know that they need help, and we don't have lions yelling "Help I'm being attacked!". This is a little more realistic.
As for NPCs, recoding this would take alot of immortal man-power (of the boring sort) and would detract from their ability to do other things. The way I can see it, if a shaman mob can permalag me with bash while it communes plague and other nasty #### onto me, I'm okay accepting that rabbit NPCs are yelling when they track you.
PS just don't flee from animal NPCs and you're ok with realism. I can't think of that many you should need to flee from, anyhow (if you use the overpowered -consider- command).

Ohhh, ok. I was unaware that there was an area-wide message already. I always thought there wasn't one hence my post. But now I know. And knowing is half the battle. Would the other half be surviving?

Caring is the other half. Surviving has nothing to do with it :p
