12405, Raiding Cabals solo.
Posted by Eclipse on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
How many times since 2006 started has someone raided solo, with someone else to defend, and taken the item successfully? Anyone want to take credit for being a badass and doing this often?
12543, I'd say any half competent goodie conjurer could do it

I raided the fortress many, many times. Generally because I was just plain bored and wanted a challenge. Often there was from 1 to 3 defenders (but this was before the fortress inner was strenghtened). Stoneform, ABS, protection and invoker shields pretty much made me invulnerable :) I could often take down the inner before the defenders actually got there, and when they did they where often ill prepared or to unorganized to face a well prepared, well geared invoker.

From someone who has been partly inspired by one of your invokers.. and failed miserably at one of my own despite making it to hero, learning all shields, darn near masteries in everything, et cetera et cetera.... It's probably not as easy for most as you might have made it look ;-).
12471, Not recent, but I did it all the time with Kardok
Posted by Rustanviel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
With Kardok, an Imperial warrior, I did this probably at least ten times. Raided the village solo vs two, killing one at the giant, and one at the Destructor. Did two vs the Fortress a couple times, once even killing two of them at the Watcher. One of the most amazing things I ever accomplished in Carrion was raiding solo vs Lariya and taking the Orb, though I would run in and flurry the watcher, then flee out and go and heal up in Ruined City with a little guy stopping repop, ended up costing me like 100 gold and a butload of preps. Outlander, I did vs a few also, but came within an inch of my life when there were two rangers around one of the times, and the spirit insect swarmed me and I took like 4 entangles from the rangers. I have some logs on his graveyard, though you'll have to look back to about February of 2004, he did some sick #### in his life.
12435, I don't know if they are still around, but...

Ilivara raided alone against numbers several times successfully, she was a juggernaut.

By making cabal inners more threatening, it makes it far easier for low numbers of defenders to ward off multiple raiders, particularly if they cannot summon.

The consequence of this upgrade is that raiding must be done with larger, better-prepped raiding parties, and for those cabal inners who maladict, a means to remove those maladictions. Hitting inners and then fleeing to wait out the maladiction is often impractical against several cabals, for Scions have their nightwalkers, Tribunals can repeatedly summon guards, Outlanders have beasts, insects, and deadfalls, the Empire historically attracts large number of assassins, and loitering near the Village is seldom a good idea.

I dislike the need to use a group to successfully raid, for it feels like I now need to bring a gank squad if I want a hope of surviving raids, but I see a few benefits worth mentioning. Caballed characters who are part of a cabal or playing time that doesn't have a huge membership are much more likely to have their cabal powers. I imagine the value of having acolytes on your side might have increased, although I wouldn't know firsthand. The stock for support classes has definitely increased, however, and my perception is that I am seeing more empowered classes, specifically more healers, than I have in quite some time. If this perception is true, we might even see more roleplay.

This is a good reason for changing the cabal inners, whether it is an intended consequence or not.

12434, Dorn did a few times.

I remember a few times with the scions where he got through alone with defenders. I can't remember with empire but I want to say I did at least once.

With the chasm I was pretty much invoker bane with my dwarven resistance. I also took out an assassin at the inner once and then finished the raid.
12429, Not recently but did it with Grogim Vs Quimo + Anith at scion cabal
Posted by Abernyte on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
and did it against a few warlocks in warlock cabal about 2004/05. Even stopped Anith and Quimo killing the giant to get it back and was awarded riddle of resilience for my efforts, which I did not notice until much later when I checked my score.

12431, I did it with Runaktla against the Fortress
Posted by Kazadan on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Probably several times, against different types of defenders,
from warriors to paladins, but definitely not when against a
particular Paladin named Solasarath :)

Yeah and certain Villagers would always make short work of the
Archmage when Runaktla was around, like Vershelt. Maybe one or
two rest periods or something.
