12242, Item Standardization - Flails
Posted by Straklaw on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
One thing I've run into frequently, and only recently stopped to think about. Why is it that flails seem to so typically have weights of just under four pounds? It makes sense with whips, but aren't flails supposed to be chains with heavy or sharp/spiked balls on them that would weigh abit more?

If not, feel free to correct me. Thanks!

I had always thought that the long chain with something heavy on the end is actually more like a mace...than like flail. At least, in the sense of old weapons.

I had always picture a flail as a long straight piece of wood, or something else with different things done to it. Think of taking a "switch" off a tree, like a long think stick that you can just nail people with. Almost like that kid who was caned over in thailand?

Shout out if I'm wrong.

Straight long piece of wood?.... That would be a staff or mace. Flails are like.. nunchucks.. balls and chains like that chineese chick on kill bill. I truely don't understand how that parries, I don't think people should even be able to parry with flails.. if not that entwine shouldnt work, thats just not logical. But neither are a lot of things that happen on CF so you just gotta go with the flow and hope for the best.

Flail has a chain, while a mace does not. Some info on flails:

It's not that flails are too light, but that other weapons tend to be ridiculously heavy. 3-4 pounds sounds about right for a flail (for humans), even though your modern prison issue flail would probably weigh in at less than half a pound.

Flails do seem a bit imbalanced though, and I don't think downgrading lash quite makes up for it.

I don't think lash has been changed in a long time.

I ran a grep on my logfiles..

It worked 75% of the time for cathoria, a human dex whip/dagger spec warrior that i played about a year and a half ago.

Then there was Eyzy. For him lash worked 52% of the time.
Had a half-drow dex warrior about a year later, eyzy. For him it only worked 52% of the time.

We're talking a substantial amount of lashes here, so it's hardly a rng fluke.
12250, Only thing that's changed is the anti-gang code

That's it.
And if Eyzy did a decent amount of ganging (I have no idea), your numbers are believable.
12253, Hmm..

Almost no ganging.. Maybe i just rolled him with a bad luck stat or something.

Or maybe you're not as good at algorithms as I am.
Stop being a cunty troll, you're better than that.
