11858, Outlanders - Subvert
Posted by Minyar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was thinking about subvert this morning while taking a shower. Since we know many great ideas come in the bathroom I thought I would share this. Now, I don't think Outlanders are "outgunned" necessarily, but they definately lose a lot more in town with guards and what not. My thought was perhaps that subvert should be able to subvert regular guards, not just special guards. Now, obvious exceptions that could have an emote like "your crazy" would be out there. ie Enforcer, Tribunal Captain...that kind of thing. However, my thought was to make these turned guards attack any tribunal or imperial. The other part of that being to also make Centurions turnable. Why couldn't an Outlander "talk" to a centurion and allow him to see the corruption of his soul and the foulness of the empire? (If thats what you believe IC)
Thoughts?

Either neppy or Lyr implied that cents are turnable, with subvert at a sufficient percentage. I've never had it high enough to try, but I'm not sure that cents arent turnable.

Theoretically, it should be possible with subvert at any percentage. If it isn't, that's probably a bug.
I've played Outlander(s) with subvert, but I've never been in a situation where I wanted to subvert Centurions while I still had my cabal powers.

Considering a Centurion's description suggests a form of magical mind control being involved (to prevent them from stealing from the gathered tithe if I remember correctly), that's a bit surprising to hear. Take note that it's been quite a long while since I've read a Centurion description.

It's been a while since I paid attention to the subvert echoes, but it's something a little mystical as well, no?

Indeed, let fantasy reign in this game.

Nep...you are only responding to one aspect of the question/idea. Would you mind giving your thoughts on the other parts please?

I don't think it's really necessary. I think Outlander looks a little weak at times vs. Empire, powerwise (specifically, when an Emperor and/or multiple Sect Leaders are in play), but I think its balance vs. Tribunal is pretty solid.

A wee bit more failure rate with that "shove" would help that Outlander/Empire balance just a wee bit :)
Hehe :)
