10909, Invoker Shields Vanishing at Logoff.

Now, I expect I probably just don't know of a few other such items, since I avoid mage-types generally, however....

That I'm aware of, invoker shields are the only spells that just vanish like that at logoff. I understand they do for other players, when that invoker logs off, but why does this happen only with shields, and not for sanctuary and transmuter spells?

Secondly, even with the understanding of doing this on other players, why do your OWN spells vanish at logoff?

Thirdly...while I first off at least am curious WHY these happen, if it's not something that can change (and I expect not), any chance we could get a list of the spells which are affected by this, and if it's a very short one, maybe a warning in the helpfiles that these spells/sups/powers will *NOT* last over logout? Since it is a very rare thing, and I've been thrown by it, as well as others.

Thanks ya'll.

What it amounts to, from a technical standpoint, is that invoker shields need to know who 'owns' them, because at any point they could be stressed by elemental damage, drawing on their owner's mana to maintain them or kicking him in the crotch if he can't afford to maintain them.

Lifeshield, not coincidentally, works the same way for much the same reason. So do a handful of other things.

This isn't true for sanctuary, haste, etc.

A solution so invokers can keep their own shields despite all that is definitely possible. It's just so low on my personal priority list that I will likely never get to it, as new things I'd rather work on will sneak ahead in the queue. Someone else might decide to work on it and that's okay by me, too.

If I am fighting someone and the invoker as well, I can drain the invokers mana by using elemental weapons against his shielded tank?

Or at least something along those lines?

10934, Sure can.

However, in many cases, you will run out of hit points before the invoker runs out of mana.

The only problem I saw with this was when it crashed, and you were in a situation where 'bad things' could happen because you lost your shields. I can remember at least once where I was worried about logging back in because I was in a room with an aggresive monster and I knew that I wasn't going to have shields. I figured I was in for a quick death, didn't happen that way because the monster didn't attack me, but I'm guessing there are situations that it could.

10936, How do you deactivate lifeshield?

It's one of these things i've never really worked out 100%

They are removed from everyone the invoker cast them upon. This is because they consumed the invokers mana to maintain, in fact if you drop a voker to 0 mana all the shields they have on others go away. Why it drops the invokers own shields as well is more likely then not going to have to do with the way it was coded but it has been this way for a long time and brought up on the bug boards before. It is by design. After a crash/reboot though I believe you have a certain amount of time to log back in without loosing them, Though I don't recall exactly if thats true.

Yes, invoker shields vanish from invoker when he logs off(not the greater shield, though). One explanation for this could be that an invoker is able to learn seven different shield spells, and is only able to use six of them at a time. One is that the shields would fall, when the invoker runs out of mana, and thus they fall when the invoker quits.
10916, Not to sound rude, but...

You both pretty much restated the fact that yes, invoker shields fall when you quit. That much I knew, though your guesses as to why agree with mine of "Well, it's coded to drop them off everyone else, it's just not coded to avoid the invoker themselves". Generally more looking for confirmation if that's the actual reason, or if there's a more gameplay reason.

That, and the curiosity as to if there are others (That's a damned important thing to know, I've seen a number of invokers dropped because they weren't aware, and login mid-raid w/ no shields), and if not...why it is only the invokers stuck with this. Course, invokers are kinda under their own rules in alot of stuff anyways. Oh well.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, both of ya, just kinda commenting that didn't really resolve the questions.
