10781, Nightgaunt to Arial City Pete Game Over for Ragers? txt
Posted by tapster on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Need some good gameplay advice. Besides trying to of course win over the nightgaunt, (which is always the goal), what do you do as a battlerager once you are brought to that alley in Arial City?
Even spending hours trying to stay full health, ready for nightgaunt, eventually you can get nightgaunted.
Is it automatic game over?
Anyway out of the locked room?
Anyone out of the city in the air if you don't fly and don't use potions?
I'd appreciate some honest advice.
(PS) I'd love to see a battlerager doorbash, even if it lagged you for 10 ticks and only worked on certain doors, (not area explore places.)
I once spent a lot of time trying to avoid a necromaner in galadon due to the no-exit rooms for summoning. Of course inevitably, went to finish off the necromancer at one point and got summoned in.
I then literally went through 30 pieces of food waiting forever late evening/early morning with no thieves logged on.
Ugh.

Way out of Arial City?
You can always go to Galadon from Arial City through Cul-de-sac. It's a hard trip, and you should have the keys to do it if you want to do it fast. Otherwise you should defeat the conjie first. Also, flying hero Ragers can help you out from Arial City that way.

I killed a necromancer in the Galadon Graveyard, after being summoned in a room, I also had to go through his mercs first, seeing as I didn't see the key in his corpse, must have been in a container, his ghost came back, and waited out in the graveyard for a while so the caretaker couldn't return (long story short)
Needless to say, flee/sleep got me, after a nice long wait.
I've been gaunted to the sands of sorrow, and killed the conjurer (thank god for succumb) only for him to return later, with an Empire bard coming too, (they werent together, but both after me) and after a lot of stunning, a lot of no mvs, and probably an hour, I finally managed to get out.
Countless other things too similiar. It sucks yeah, but..
You get to be a villager, so take the bad with the good.

I will try to be a bit less devious than NEP on my adivce.
The gaunt cannot go in the past, it cannot go from one continent to another, it wont come to the underdark, unless the gaunter is in those areas. It wont come during the day. It also wont go underwater but im not sure about this one.
If you have neither of those options open to you, try to stay in a group of 2 so you have a good chance to kill the gaunt if you arent a defensive spec. If the conjurer really wants to gaunt you arial city so you wont get out, he can do it. Try not to give him the opportunity to do so.
YOu can do a few things, set a trigger on your zmud that goes off when the night has begun and when daylight comes. THey will tell you when you need to get to safety or when you can go back out into the world.
Gaunt will also not go inside cabals. Guilds wont save you, some may some may not, not sure which guilds wont let a gaunt come in.
You can get out of arial city without flying, its unlikely you will escape a good conjurer unless you know exactly where to go. Check out in game "Help succumb" (SP?)
Enjoy.

the guards of the Eternal Star will assist you in fighting the nightgaunt (or at least they did when I got gaunted). If you need a place to rest, the inn might be a good spot.

I don't believe this is all correct, FYI.

THe gaunt can go in the past if the conjurer is also in the past...thats accurate enough.
This info is accurate enough and it has served me well. Why dont you just post what is innacurate in my post? What i told him should serve him well enough. Im not uber knowledgeable or elite or whatever but I do try to help a newbie.
Back to your post, Neppy, why do you give an obvious noob such, half assed, cryptic, cynical answers?
Kill the conjurer!! No sh*t?... Sherlock. Im sure he didnt think of that. Thats the solution to everything though.
TIP to poster: Use succumb, when you are almost at full health. If you do that the gaunt will take you to the conjie, get ready to pincer that guy. Read the helpfile. Dont try to fight the gaunt if you think you cant win, it will take you to 50% of health then fly you to the conjie.
DO NOT FLEE FROM THE GAUNT..THE LESS YOU FLEE THE BETTER
ps. Why was my last post deleted?

I believe gaunts will go into the underdark.
Some people have claimed success intentionally fleeing from the gaunt so that it kills them instead of taking them away. So if you know you are a goner, attempting to get the gaunt to kill you might increase the odds of getting your stuff back.

I dont think they will, not unless the conjie is there too.
THe fleeing thing yes, its correct. However, not a very brave thing to do for a villager. It may be practical if he knows hes a goner, as you say, just he shouldnt make a habit of it. Thats why i didnt want to get into details about that :)

10808, Past and gaunts
Posted by DurNominator on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You can gaunt people who are in same continent with you. The continents are: Southern continent(Seantryn, Jade Mountains, Coastal plains, Xvart etc.), eastern continent(Arkham, Prosimy, Mt. Kiadana-Rah, etc.) Western continent(Galadon, Hamsah, Udgaard, Aryth Ocean, Western Aryth etc.) and the Past(Which is the place beyond the void in the Holy Grove).
Sidenote: Teleport spell will also transport you to same continent you were before. The Oceans were placed on Western continent according to experience gained from teleporting.

gaunts can go to the underdark as well, im not exactly sure its been a while but im about 75% sure they can.

10812, I believe there is misinfo here

I've fought off gaunts from the underdark when the conjie isn't in the underdark, albeit this was some time ago. This is the bit that I think is misinfo.
Also not clear whether you are saying that you can't be gaunted in the past. Don't think you are, but just to be sure, I'll say that you can be gaunted from the past if the conjie is in the past, which is what I think you were saying anyway.
> It wont come during the day. It also wont go underwater but im not sure about this one.
I've never been gaunted from underwater, but some people swear you can be. Personally I'll keep believing that you can't be.
> If you have neither of those options open to you, try to stay in a group of 2 so you have a good chance to kill the gaunt if you arent a defensive spec. If the conjurer really wants to gaunt you arial city so you wont get out, he can do it. Try not to give him the opportunity to do so.

Personally I have game time in my prompt, so that I can think about where to go before nightfall. However, gaunts rarely come early in the night as most conjies use a lot of mana summoning the gaunt and then need rest before binding it.
>Gaunt will also not go inside cabals. Guilds wont save you, some may some may not, not sure which guilds wont let a gaunt come in.

Problem I always have with this is that there's a good change you'll be gaunted into a gang.
Enjoy.

>Even spending hours trying to stay full health, ready for >nightgaunt, eventually you can get nightgaunted.
You don't need to do that though, exactly. There's a relatively narrow window of time in which a nightgaunt is feasible. If you have a hostile nightgaunter in range, one option is to be ready to fight during that window if you're up to the challenge. Another is to be someplace a nightgaunt won't go during that window. A third is to kill the conjurer at any other time. :)
>I then literally went through 30 pieces of food waiting >forever late evening/early morning with no thieves logged on.
There's more than one way to skin that cat. A thief isn't the only answer.
However, be aware that a Battle warrior (and worse, a Battle warrior applicant will take it in the crotch at times when no one else has to. That's part of the fun of playing a Battle warrior. :)

It is the conjurer that has to be under open sky and stars to call the gaunt, not the prey.

10783, Some thoughts
Posted by Theerkla on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Don't get nightgaunted. It seems obvious, but there are enough limitations on them that except for cabal raid / defense situations, or you are desparate to rank and ignore the danger you should never be gaunted.
There is at least one way out of Arial City without flying, explore the city fully next time you are a ghost.
As far as I know, getting an outlander to grant you windwalk is acceptable, so if you can get one to come rescue you, you can fly out of arial city.
I believe gearing for saves protects against summoning. IMO, even as a battle rager (some would say especially as a battle rager, and I wouldn't argue), saves vs. spells is the most important thing to gear for.
