10337, Idea for maledictorians
Posted by oldguy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Have y'all ever given any thought to an echo to the PK-er if the PK-ee died to their malediction?
I was thinking along the same lines as someone quitting right after you PK them, how that tells you "Word spreads through Thera..."
Something like that, only "Word spreads through the land that your crimson scourge has done in ScourgeVictim." or some such.

If necromancers are the maledictorians, does that make minotaurs the pollutatorians?

I'd rather give them a chance to get their stuff/hide the body.

'Who pk' sorta negates that. If the guy can't locate your corpse or get someone to locate your corpse an echo wouldn't solve things.
I like this idea because I don't like guessing whether it was a bad teleport or scourge or another player or whatever that killed them. Would make a shaman a tad more interesting.

I can see your point, but for the moment it strikes me as a little better/real to have that sort of ambiguity there.
While I'd be totally open to say, a god of death's tattoo or a quest skill or something giving the odd character that level of insight, it doesn't strike me as that positive for the game overall for everyone to 'just know' this.

Eskelian pretty much made the points that I was going to, but I'll reiterate the big point: Adding this wouldn't really give you any added benefit as the PK-er other than knowing whether YOU got the PK-ee, or something else did.
It may not seem like that big of a deal, then, but there are several IC situations where someone will ask you "Did you get PK-ee?" and you're like - "I-yes? Uh maybe? Could be - I did hamstring him and he was bleeding pretty bad but he teleported so he might have died that way."
It would be nice to be able to just say "Yes."

In other words, you want this primarily for scorekeeping and belt-notching.
Personally, I think we're over-invested in that field.

Not really sure why knowing if you killed someone would constitute as bad.
If its an easy thing that some people would enjoy wouldn't it make sense?
Looting is enough incentive for people to kill other people, so I don't think this minor thing would have any real effect other than pleasing a few people, which I don't find particularly horrible.

I think there's already too much stuff in for the belt-notching crowd. You're correct that it would be an incentive to the more anal-retentive scorekeepers. I just don't agree that it's a behavior we want to reward.

You don't agree that score-keeping or PKing is a behavior you want to reward?

It's like playing pick-up basketball, and some dude keeps asking "Hey? Was I properly credited with an assist on the last offensive sequence? I prefer to jot these things down."

10348, I beg to differ.

I think CF is more like an organized league than a pick-up game.

At first when I read your post I was a tiny bit insulted. Then I re-read my own post and realized that that's EXACTLY what it sounds like I'm interested in. So, my bad.
The belt-notch aspect isn't really a big issue to me, and after reading your post I got to thinking what other reason I would have for wanting this.
What I came up with was tactics. I want to know, if I hit them with a lot of bleeding, if that's going to work or just be an annoyance. If I rot them, will their con make them able to survive it, or are they low? I know cloud giants are vuln to crimson and plague, but how well did/will it work against that rager cloud I just slept that ran away?
I just thought it'd be nice to know, when you just fought someone, whether your tactics worked or if they just got unlucky.
I can, however, see the counterpoint - one of the nice things about maledictions is the added bonus of them working while your prey runs away from you - free damage/etc. Maybe a balancing point is not being able to tell how well it works.
It really isn't a big deal to me, just an idea. Y'all don't like it, so it can just go away.
