Stats can be inflated if you follow a strict code of engagement like that character did. He would not engage anyone who remotely understood how to fight transmuters or was close to his own level despite his great gear.
Dark elven transmuters have a much harder time through the ranks and at hero he wouldn't be nearly as scary as he was mid ranks (and he knew that hence 41 :) )
