I completely agree, that it is valid rp, but equally some people don't respond because they are jerks, or because they missed something in spam, or because they are having link issues. So the guy asking the question doesn't know which.

"I don't talk to X is just incompatible with the game". Just -say- that you have no intention of having a conversation with a farging X, if you want.

I second the thing re ignore. Especially the people who say something and then switch on ignore without letting you do a single tell in response.
