2, Improvements for the New CF player
Posted by Lightmage on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
A friend of mine tried CF after much prodding. The complaint he had was in nagivating the land. The newbie school was good, the few quests to help move about the land were good. After that...blah. His biggest problem was finding places to learn, gather equipment, etc. With the addition of new areas and a small player base in which to actually find someone around your rank willing to help you, he was left to his own devices most of the time.

This would be a bigger project but would involve 3 or 4 automated tours. My idea would be to have a Tour Caravan, where player could select several catagories. Lets just use two for the example. The player would indicate they would like to do the City Tour. The Caravan would start in Galadon, the player would basically become frozen and not able to control anything. The caravan driver would say something like, "Off we go, north from Galadon, following the road. At a key turn off point 'He would indicate the direction they were now heading all the while moving along at a faster than usual pace. The tour might take 10 minutes but would hit each city, or you could have a tour that is specific to each city. It can be complicated to tell a newbie, Meet me in Udgaard. Just head north, and east a bit, go through mountains, and north again. If all newbies were given the ability to know where each city was and how to safely get there it would really help. You could have a tour as as well for basic ranking areas for lowbies.

It wouldnt be a transport thing, they would just be shown from actual first person. Even the maps can be confusing as they dont indicate each turn or direction needed.

Sounds less exciting the more I type....but from a total newbie perspective I think it would be good.

I agree with your statements above. I'm not sure I'm a fan of an automated tour-bus, but be it quests, or help files, or maps or whatever, I think we have room to improve. Feel free to continue to suggest ideas in this vein.

A shop in Galadon with NPC's that will come along on ranking trips for newbs. In PK situations they would get scared and run off, so as to not be abused. The guides would each be selected from a list. Lets say you chose 1) Dangerous Dan's Troll hunting Tour- For ranks 18- 25. The guide would give a speel about how to get to the FOrest in the past, maybe give directions like...Lets head out onto the east road. Head east till you find a trail leading to a grove. Etc. Once there he would fight a few then get bored and walk off.
34, Class specific vendors for under rank 25 gear.

Maybe in each guildhall in Galadon, have a decent set of gear that is suited for a specific class. Armor for every position. Or appropriate until they can identify or lore. Lot of newbs are running around wearing piecemail junk that is actually making them fight worst.
